Changing from Dreamweaver MX
Ok, firstly, ive gotta say, Dreamweaver MX is a damm good program. I didnt really like it, but i was forced into using it and never looked back. But recently, something has crept up on me. Its the damm ram usage of Dreamweaver, it takes upto 30 seconds sometimes to save a php file (and my machine is fast!).
So im starting to look for another editor, basically i want something like dreamweaver (without the memory problems), if you guys are using something simular to Dreamweaver MX, please let me know. |

There really isn't anything like Dreamweaver MX out there. There are issues with it but it is also a V1 of a new product. I would wait for an update from Macromedia and see how it performs then.
What features of DWMX do you use most often? I use it on a daily basis but not as my primary editor. I mainly use Note Tab Pro from www.notetab.com. This is a very simple editor with a very powerful clip language that allows me to speed up my development time. HTH,

I just bought a new book titled, "Dreamweaver MX: PHP Web Development" and just by browsing through the pages, it looks like a pretty good book.
Looks like the book allows the reader to create a "hotel room booking system" to demonostrate how to build a PHP site using Dreamweaver MX. ISBN: 1-904151-11-6 |

I too use HTML-Kit, and haven't looked back.
I especially like the plug-in abilities, which allow you to use 3rd-party plugins (ex: php syntax list, sql syntax list, color picker, php manual, and so many more). I use it on a daily basis. I had been juggling between many other editors, including PHPEd, but I couldn't find the right one; that is until I came across HTML-Kit! Excellent app!

I wasn't going to post this, but I now feel its relavent to this discussion.
I use multiple tools based on what I am doing. I use DWMX when I want to do something quickly and without thinking. I use CF Studio when I need to use the help docs for ColdFusion. I use Note Tab Pro for 90% of development because of the clip language that it has. I use Edit Plus for its FTP capabilities and for speed. I also use Homesite 5 becuase I own it. I have not found that 1 editor that does everything that I want. If I had time, I would write my own that all the features of all the editors that I liked the most. After all this, here id what I am getting at: use the tool that you feel most comfy with for what you are doing. |

Cool, thanks! I think right now all I use is this Spell Check (not that I need it ).Cheers, Joe of 4Life [edit]Well, I guess the reason I didn't see that was because when I downloaded HK some time ago they probably didn't have that [/edit]Last edited by Joe4JC : August 20th, 2002 at 09:44 AM. |
