Costing on CAI softwares
Hello everyone!
I'm new to software costing. I just recently developed a Computer-Aided Instruction Software for kids. I just get stuck with how am I going to cost the software I developed. My problems are: 1.What are the guidelines needed in costing my software? 2.Could you site the requirements needed? 3.My instructor asks, how am I going to convince my client on the cost I have proposed? Thanks for any help! Microchest (Project leader) |

My suggestion would be this:
Determine the amount of time you spent on the project, how many hours, to the exact. Contract work is usually billed in hours, but not always, some contracts pay a certain amount no matter what. You need to decide which of these you want to do. Write up a sales pitch, you need to be able to sell this to the client, it has to be something that they absolutely CAN'T live without, or at least that's what you'll need to convince them of. Determine how much the equipment you used to design the program cost, talk to designers, get estimates for the kind of work you are doing If available, price the competition, find out what they are charging, and justify it. If you think you could get more you'll need to be able to explain why your product is worth the extra cost as compared to the competition. I'm sure there are other things you can factor in.. When I contract out, it depends on the size of the project, how many people are involved, and the type of work involved.. if it's a small project I may just charge a single fee, if its larger and more detailed then I may charge an hourly fee, with a minimum of a certain amount of hours..
