daemons
If you have space on a web server (not tripod, angelfire, etc..) that you pay for along with your domain name, can you run a daemon from your directory? Meaning, without having the web server admin install/run it for you.

In simple terms, a Daemon (usually on Unix) is an application that sits on a network, detached from a single terminal, and waits for a connection to it. Once a connection is made, it peforms the desired task. It's basically always running and waiting for solmething to do.
examples: echo, telnet, sendmail, etc.. |

You'll have to ask your host. This is probably different from host to host

You could always just try it and see what happens?
