Failure of PWS Installation

PWS installation did not work for my W98SE computer with 20GB free, and 750 MHz.

I followed every step in the article on how to install PWS. I downloaded relevant files from MS, which were obsolete, as they did not work. The file dates were 1997. I downloaded Mtsetup.dll which was newer. The PWS installation still did not work.

I located my W98SE installation disk, where files were dated, 4/23/99.

In each attempt to install PWS the error message related to SYSOCMGR.EXE with invalid page fault.

"Removing All" between attempts did not succeed. The message indicated Microsoft Transaction Server Setup call to ICatalogUpdate ApplyChanges failed.

Unless someone is kind enough to help me, my only option is to sign up with a Web host, for which I am not yet ready.

Your help would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Bill B

Are you looking to do ASP stuff?
If so, I guess you probably should continue to try PWS.

If not, try apache.

Other than that, I'd say get a copy of windows 2000 server and install IIS.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Yes, I am trying to learn ASP. However, with my older system, upgrading to use a server is somewhat complex. I am planning to launch a web site with a host that uses Unix servers, and support Chilisoft compatible with ASP 3.0. Before signing up with a web host I intend to learn more about ASP, and to build a web site using that knowledge.

If I cannot resolve the installation problem with PWS, I may have to sign up with the host a couple months sooner.

Thanks for your reply and your time.

Bill B

Installing Windows Server is not all that complicated.
You are doing something more complicated by trying to make win98 a server.

IMHO it would be easier to setup your first linux server than
to get win98 running the way you would want it to.
