HTML editors

I'm planning on a small, home-based business with a web presence. Since I have some "basic" webmaster skills, I am considering the purchase of either Namo WebEditor 5 or Microsoft's Front Page 2002, as my web making tool.

The site will begin with about 5 or 6 pages and support credit card ordering/processing.

From much reading, I've concluded that the ISP will offer Front Page Extension (support); my questions:

1. Does Namo WebEditor 5 support/interface with these extensions?
2. All bias aside, which product would be recommended for me?

Thanks, in advance.

Just get a copy of PHPEd - its free & supports PHP, HTML, JavaScript and more... - its hust color coded code though - (no WYSIWYG).

If you want a full package I could only recomend DreamWeaverMX.

Are you planning on learning things like PHP and HTML????

You'll need server side processing for Credit card stuff and therefore cannot just create a bunch of HTML files in something like FrontPage. Personally I think FrontPage is a waste of time.

If your just starting with Web Dev, then its worth starting properly and developing standards compliant code.

Thank you for your response and suggestions. I've used Dreamweaver and Homesite (where I learned some HTML). I love Dreamweaber; however, because I'm building the site for a home business, financing the s/w pakage, today, is of concern. I also want WYSIWYG (my HTML coding experience and/or "expertise" is not that great).

Consider NetObjects Fusion - its free when you take out a hosting plan with oneandone.co.uk or about £40 to buy. I have no further info on your original suggestions. You appear to need ecommerce facilites, therefore you may me best off with an out of the box eShop. There are several affordable products available. Im a bit busy tonight - I was only on the forums 'cos I run into a bit of trouble with some reg exps in PHP. - Ill post a better response tommorow.

How did this end? What did you get?

Hi,

I read the thread and found there a complete avoidance to the question of Namo WebEditor. I recently found several decent reviews of the product. I have and use DW and FP. Both a very decent products, and because I'm a Platinum partner I paid very little for these products.

I also own WebEditor 4 and recently tried the trial version of WebEditor 5. I was able to do in one hour what took me 3 hours in FP 2002 and several days in DW4. I can purchase the WebEditor 5 upgrade for under $50, and just might do that considering that time is money. WebEditor does not compare to the other products when it comes to work group development, but I work alone most of the time.

Please let me know how this turned out for you. I saw a promise of a continued post, which appears to have not happened. I suspect there was a reason the post was not finished.

I would love to know why the avoidance and why no further discussion?

WebEditor is pretty decent for what you are trying to do.

But, if paying big bucks for top shelf software is your thing, in stead of doing whatever it takes to get the job done with the least cost and best out come, so be it.

A mind, like a parachute, only works when it is open.

My assumption for the lack of WebEditor discussion is probably due to the fact that most people use Dreamweaver of FP as their tool of choice.

Personally, I've never used WebEditor... I do most of my development by hand, and occasionaly use Dreamweaver when I need to whip something up in a hurry.

As for WebEditor... I will definately give it a try, as your statement above has given me some perspective! Is it really that much faster?

If I had my choice between FP and DW, I too would choose DW... I used FP when I first started out, and although it offers a word-like interface, I don't consider it to be a contender in the world of Web editors... But that's just my opinion!

Ditto Franky - I've never even heard of Namo Webeditor. That's prolly why no-one's mentioned it.

Can i suggest you check out your local s/w store and see if they have a copy of dreamweaver 4 - it should be cheaper as it been superseded. - i still use it and prefer if over MX as it's a tad slimmer. Out of all the web tools i've used for wysiwyg - I've found dw to be the best. still. after 6 or 7 years.
