Unhappy http://localhost and http://127.0.0.1 doesn't work

I installed apache 1.3.27 and it installed fine and started fine, but when I type in the above two addresses in internet explorer, I get nothing, for URL i get a blank page and for URL i get a page saying it can't be found. I don't get page the apache page saying it was installed and running successfully on your machine. Help please, thanks

just a stab at it.

i dont know that much, so im taking a guess - as silly as this may seem when i installed mine i had a similar problem, i had forgot to start the server. some times it starts on its own when you reboot and some times is dont depends on how you installed it.

I hope that works, if not one the brains that read these posts should help you next time they log on. You picked a great site to post your question all the members are really nice people and have good work to back up their knowledge.

it was running, but still got the same thing

There are 2 common reasons for this syndrom.
01. Apache didnt start.
So start it manually by double-clicking Apache.exe file , this file exists (if windows) in folder C:\Program files\Apache Group\Apache
or
from START->RUN type
NET START APACHE

if you are at linux box
probably you need to type

./apachectl start (find where this file is)

02.

Check the DocumentRoot configuration at httpd.conf file

C:\Program files\Apache Group\Apache\conf (Windows)

For linux find the same file and make necessary changes for
DocumentRoot
