Internet Marketing

Just wanted to get everyone's opinions (both as developers and as consumers), to find out what are the best ways of marketing a product or products on the Internet.

My budget isn't too big, but I am willing to spend some money. I know wAr-AnGeL thinks I should give out free dedicated servers, but I don't think I would stay in business for very long if I did that.

If you want to spread the word about your product, look into free marketing! If your product is developer related, go around to developer forums, post and help people out, also place a little advert in your sig, people are bound to click and the most people you help usually click on your link, for your help and effort.

What ever you do, dont go into a forum and post "go to my new site because..". This usually leads to a moderator, or admin deleting your post.

If you want to spend money, look at sponsoring a newsletter or something like that, just research what you sponsor before you folk up the cash.

Just some ideas.

Yeah, I agree with Ben in that free advertising is one of the better options. Although if you want to reach a greater audience, there are some not-so-expensive advertising programs available... Newsletters are a great way to advertise. Just make sure that the newsletter you advertise in relates to your product or service.

Unless you have a nice-sized budget, I wouldn't recommend the PPC (Pay Per Click) programs that are offered by the Search Engines... You won't go far on a single penny!

also try using common phrases on search engines, and check your ranking, about 90% of websites are found via search engines. Make sure your meta tags are descriptive, and also try link swapping, this will also increase your ratings on google and other search engines, basically the more links that point back to your site, the higher the rating you will get
