ok this will be two questions.

1st question. i'm trying to get an ftp setup on my server, but i'm using apache, so what's a good ftp server that works with apache? i hope i am making sense.

2nd question: this one is for ben or mytch or anyone who uses vbulletin for thier site. how do i change the colors and templates to my board. i just bought it and i have everything else setup just right, but i just don't know how to change the colors to the board. so how do i do that?

for the FTP server question. Is this *nix or Windows?

if it is *nix, my favorites are ncftpd and proftpd

by the way,....it does not matter that you run apache.

apache/httpd and ftp are 2 seperate servers/services

yeah i know they are two different services but i already have cute ftp. lets say i want people to be able to connect to the ftp server, so they can retrieve car videos, since i'll be running a car site. rather than hosting the car movies on my site, i want to put them on my ftp server, but i don't know how to setup one to host files for people to download. so how do i go about doing that.

well there are a couple of ways to do it. It all depends on your ftp server and OS.

1.) What Operating System is the server?
2.) What FTP server are you running?

Thats the client software, not the server.

Firstly to get the server running your going to need a FTP server program, it doesnt matter, if your running apache, or cute ftp. you can still have a ftp server without a web server or ftp client, as THEY ARE SEPERATE THINGS. lets not get confused about this issue.

ok, i havent had to much experience with ftp servers however, i do have 1 on both a windows and linux server.

for a windows server, you can either use the ftp server that comes with IIS, or you can use a 3rd party program.

I recomend using

URL

its a standalone application for a ftp server, which allows you to do everything you could want to do with a ftp server. Download that and give it a try, you wont be disapointed.

When you login to the admin area, if you scroll, right to the very bottom, there will be called a section called templates, now if you click modify and scroll down a bit, you will see some wonderful colours, these colours are the colours that vb uses. Infact, this page will allow you to change the cosmetic side of vb in every way.
