Me me me me!!!
I'm using qmail right now for my smtpd and vpopmail as my pop before smtpd software The benefits of vpopmail are this: you turn off relaying in qmail by not using their pop server.. and when you log in to the pop port, it automatically adds in that ip address that the user authenticates from to the allowed ip's that are able to use the smtp to send mail.. you do have to set up a cron job to remove the ip's from the list however, so you don't risk opening a door to hackers with the authentication |

What about SMTP Auth - It sounds like it is even better than Pop before SMTP. Anyone tried this, or have any recommendations on how to go about it. I would really like to implement something like this, but I am unsure about what needs to be done.
My Server is running FreeBSD 4.8 sendmail qpopper |

never tried smtp auth.. too buggy from everything I've read.. too many possible exploits out there for smtp auth... besides.. smtp auth sends plain text passwords whereas most pop connections <not all> are encrypted.. if you were able to encrypt the password to make it safe then yeah i would try it

Here is a page that posted some benefits to SMTP Auth:
http://alpineweb.com/announcements/...e_01122003.html But I didn't realize that it sent the password in plain text ![]() |
