Scan Document in .bmp legibly

I am trying to scan my credit card using .bmp, but it is not very clear. The numbers and my name do not show up very clearly. Can anyone suggest a different type of file which would enable this? Thanks for your help.

If you will mail your credit card and a sample of your handwriting and signature to me, I'll scan it for you. Seriously, have you tried TIFF? I don't know a great deal about scanning, but I believe lots of people use TIFF.

lol dhouston

cboodhan - If final file size is no issue (i.e. you are not emailing it, or posting to the web), then go with TIFF - as it is an uncompressed filetype.

Otherwise, scan at a larger size than required, and a higher resolution, then once scanned, shrink down to the actual required size and save as a JPEG with minimal compression settings.
