spoolslv.exe eating 100% resources
On all windows 2000 machines on my network suddenly we found the spoolslv.exe is eating over 90% of resources.
We don't have any printer on this network. I tried stopped print spool service.I helps sometime for a little period but comes back. I tried "hijack this" & spybot to detect any torjan. I have updated NAV & MACAFEE. I also tried to install A pesonal firewall. I format the machines. Problems reappears after few hour of format perhaps as soon as I connected to Internet. Stopping internat & LAN helps sometimes but not always. Any luck Friends. Regards, Techxpert |

Thanks,
"hijack this" is the programme as refrenced in one of the url you told. I find the second one very useful, will give it a try. Between this can you suggest a Personal Firewall for my PC that comes Free. Thanks, Techxpert www.techxpertsystems.com |

Zone Alarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/home.jsp) - I used the free version for years - seems quite solid.

spoolsv.exe eating your resources? STOP FEEDING HIM!
After reading/appling web solutions and spending about 8 frustrating hrs w phone tech "support", I stumbled across this simple solution on my own.
1. open your printers folder in control panel 2. identify printers w/ active print jobs (I had a "document image writer"? pre-installed on my computer which i had somehow printed to) 3. delete un-needed printer and/or print jobs 4. delete and reinstall required printers if neccessary Hope this saves someone the time and troubles I endured.
