Terms of Use and Privacy Policy
How do you write a Terms of Use/Conditions and a Privacy Policy? I searched all over the web and can't seem to find a site that would lay out the the steps of writing these stuff.
Thanks for your help. |

Rip 'em off another site - that's what most people do!

Boo... haha... well, I want to make it, but I need an outline on how to do this stuff, so I can understand about what I'm actually writing about, and enforce it =D.

Well, Privacy Statements are pretty simple to write (i.e. they don't need to contain a lot of legal mumbo-jumbo). You simply say what data you will capture during a users visit to your site, and what you do with that data. For example, do you use cookies? What is stored the cookie. What info is collected in your logs. Do you ask the user for their email address. What do you do with this info (sell it to advertisers?)
The Terms of Use is a legal document, which explains why you won't find a "howto" write one on the web (da lawyers gots ta get paiiid). They deal with how a technology is supposed to be used. I'm still not sure why people are using them on websites, I just don't see the point. Maybe someone can explain it to me? |

Written properly, privacy policies are the most complicated to create. With out the correct format, privacy policies can prevent cookies (even if the user has cookies turned on) from being set on the users machine. Check out IBM and do a search on P3P and download there software to create your Privacy Policy - you will quickly realize how complicated it can be... Quote:
Legally one must be present to protect your stuff on your site. Without that document explaining in the proper language that the stuff belongs to you or to your comapany, images or whatever are open for theft. Copyright text on the footer of your page means absolutley nothing without this document explaining in detail that whatever belongs to you, even the cached images on the users hard drive. If created properly - it is an equal to a software EULA...
