Question to use or not to use???

hi there
i am confused whether using vb.net is worth the effort for building a standalone windows application where database connections are handled using ado.net....since i am very new to vb.net i was just wondering is it really worth learning vb.net and building this stand alone windows application with some 15 to 20 forms and 15 to 20 tables

thanks
sats

If you already know vb, why are you going to waste your time learning vb.net or possibly c# just to get this project done.

The app isn't going to magically build itself just because you learned vb.net... You should map it out first, then figure out which language to use depending on the requirements of the application.

If you are planning to learn vb.net anyhow, and the time to build this app does not matter, then go ahead and learn it and use this project as a test case.

BTW, I noticed you posted twice??

Yeah, VB.NET and any of the .NET based languages (C#, JScript.NET, C++.NET, etc.) are good for that type of application.

I would recommend learning C# instead (the is only major difference is in syntax) but that is mainly based on my personal preference.

...my only interest is to know whether vb.net help a windows application perform better than the one developed with vb6 interms of say database connectoin or visual enhancing...
offcouse time limit is there for this project too but i don;t mind putting in the extra effort if i get more...

thanks again
and i shall not post it twice

The only thing I've found so far that gives me trouble when making Windows applications is the fact that the end-user needs to have the .NET framework installed on their computer. Maybe this wouldn't be an issue for you if you already know the computer to which it will be installed.

However, does anyone know if this is true? Does every person who buys my application (which is written in VB .NET) need to have the .NET framework installed for the applcation to work correclty?
