Voice recorded messages online

I am trying to find information on how to implement a feature that will allow a visitor to a web site to record a short message from their browser. The message will then be stored in a database for playback when called on.

Does anybody have any ideas??

They would most likely have to record the sample on their PC first, then transfer the file across. Unless a company like Real has something on offer....

Actually, I think it is available on some of the popular singles/dating sites. Users can record a short blurb about themselves when they register...or something like that.

The reason I'm asking is because my company received an RFP for a singles web site similar to www.lavalife.com or http://www.match.com. I think both of these site offer the recored message feature. Maybe this is just a wish, in reality you may be right about recording the message and then transfering it to the server.

Out of curiosity, have you tried the feature on the dating sites? Give it a try to see how they do it...

I remembered reading something about VoiceXML... not sure if that would help though... try doing a search on Google for it!

I haven't tried the feature myself. I will see if I can find a site to try it...without having to sign up. I might have to actually to join one to test it.

Yeah, you'll most likely have to join... Not sure if they charge fees or if they're free...
