What is a fair price to pay?

I am putting together a site for teachers and schools to host sites. Currently the district does not support dynamic functions on their server, and I see the need to offer schools a server outside the district to run php/database capability.

I would set up the generic site and input the teachers, a one time install...then offer training to their staff if needed.

What is a fair price to charge for something like this? I need to keep in mind that the district is in competition for this, since schools pay out of the district's pot. This would most likely be paid out of the school's PTO fund.

Anyway, not to confuse the matter. Any ideas?

I'm not clear on what you're actually going to do for them. Are you asking for fair pricing on a server to be colocated and then the programming of a custom portal? Or for decent Web hosting that'll support PHP plus the custom programming? Or for putting together a static Web site. In all cases, are you asking about design (and can you do it or will you outsource it) and programming or just one or the other?

I did not make myself clear, sorry.
I am offering to outsource the server but offer the setup of the site and the programming...possible training, and support for an extra fee.

I have looked around at basic web design ( of new site ), setup, etc. but this also includes programming.

I've created a system for schools to admin. their sites, similar but not as robust as programs offered here, but custom for schools. I am selling this, plus the setup required ( install, initial loading of teachers and staff, and possible registration with Register.com for a site name since they will either linking off the district's server or registering a new site name.

A lot of questions.

1. If I wanted someone to set up WebEditPro. for me, on a remote server, and train me on how to use it...about how much would that cost? The program alone is around $599. for a site of 12-15 users...if I remember correctly.

The program I developed is not as extensive as WebEditPro. and I thought about using WebEditPro. but it is more than we need and not exactly WHAT we need.

You might consider a setup fee of a couple or few hundred bucks (depending on the quality of your software and the value you think it brings to your clients) and then an hourly fee for setup. Data entry would obviously bring a lower rate than the more technical stuff. A lot of Web firms charge $125-$150/hr for programming. You'd probably lose business if you shot that high. Maybe $30/hr for data entry and $55-$65/hr for installation, and $75-$85/hr for customization of the software? Just pulling those numbers out of my rear. It really depends on what your market will support. Sorry I can't give you more clear-cut numbers. Maybe some freelancers can shed more light on the topic.
