forum help.. on my new site

hey,

i have just set up a new site called "Yu-Gi-Oh Online"

www.yu-gi-oh-online.co.uk

i am bascially looking for any tips on getting users to register on the forum... I get about 50 unique hits a day at the moment, but hardly any one registers on the message boards!!
- they do go there, cos I can see them as guests!!

any ideas or suggestions will be much appreciated!!

Although I loath sites that do it, just force people to reg before they can view post's. Or add posts.

hm... i also hate that... but its a consideration...

but...

we have actually just launched a competition..... bascially all people need to do is register.... then they are entered in to a prize draw .....

so hopefully that'll get them to register, as the prize is a rare set of cards worth £120.....

fingers crossed!!

Nice one - that's a much more friendly approach.

hey,

it seems to have worked... we've now got 62 members, and over 2000 posts.... most people who post on the site register and dont even realise there is a competition... but the ones who register purley for the comp dont post at all....

so I think its worked in the sense that we have more members, but not in the sense that they are posting!!

well, for the community we're aiming at, this is a pretty good prize!!

They are 5 rare cards that are pretty hard to get hold of, so to win all of them at once is pretty good!!

Nice Site,
Well, one tip probably is that Registered users will have acces to private places for example, or they will get subscribed to a monthly newsletter. (So like when you send the newsletter they will revisit probably your site).
