Hey Charking,

Not bad man... I would definitely work on using a couple more colours, as the grey is making it look very bland.

I would also add some more padding to the left side where the "News" is posted. The first letter of each line is covered by the divider between the content and the navigation.

You may also want to increase the font size a tad bit, as it's somewhat small and can strain the eyes.

It's coming along nicely... Keep it up!

yeah the grey colour scheme isn't much, I have a thanksgiving orange one too, although I may need to get more colors all around, cause it's basically just replacing the current colours. And the page is in all table less as best I could, although I do have a slightly higher resolution I think than most other computers I have been using, the site always seems a bit wrong. I might just redo it all with tables so its not so pushed around. And yeah I may make the font size bigger or maybe have an option to change it, I like those.

I was prompted for a password when I clicked your link. I kept hitting cancel, and then your page loaded without a stylesheet and without images.

Looking good charking - great to see more people getting into table-less design, and XHTML

Couple of points:
Have a look at the site in either Mozilla or Mozilla Firebird - there's an issue with padding in the main content area (Frank was alluding to it in his post, but since you've prolly only checked the site in IE, you might not have realised there was something wrong)

For some reason, you have a whole bunch of html, head, body OPENING tags in your footer content?!

Too much grey!

Validate your CSS here: http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator-uri.html
Validate your HTML here: http://validator.w3.org/

Otherwise, good work!

I also see the HTML/HEAD/BODY tags in the footer content... seems like your copyright include file (i assume) is written as a full html document...

The actual site design is spooking-ly similar to a personal site i made a couple years ago... great minds think alike i guess...

I agree with the too much grey concept mentioned above (as my site suffered the same problem)... May I suggest an accent color to add detail to the page... perhaps a large banner graphic promoting the title of your site?

Overall the site seems pretty good... can't help but notice, is the bulk of the site run from index.php? A lot of the links go there with some GET parameters passed... must have been fun to code... ;-)

i will fix the footer thing, I don't see it, but I'll jsut make it a pure php page not hard at all. and yah I did use index.php as my page pretty much the whole time heh... is this bad practise? and I am going to make a banner soon... in the cpanel section are other style sheets though! hehe.

Hey Mr. Charking,

Very nice site. Good luck with it. If you're into adding some color (just a thought ), there are some simple color combos here that might inspire you to take the plunge. Try messing about with color combinations in groups of 3 and 5. You'll be surprised how much your site will benefit from just adding a couple of colors.

Don't anyone use that site as an example for building an "accessible" site. The entire site is made up of images, meaning, that blind people cannot use the site (i.e. screen reading software, or images turned off), and no search engines can index it, as there is no text in to index!

Hi Stumpy,

Good point! I included it for color combos only. I still like the layout, even tho' it's not «accessible» in many other ways.

[BTW, maybe I'll start another thread in the Design Forum on «text-rich» design and search engine optimization in the light of so many «slice-heavy» sites out there that look great but don't qualify for the search engines].

Robsta
