A cry for Microsoft

I just read an article on ASPBuilder that a guys was saying that people who don't like microsoft are just jealous?

http://www.aspbuilder.net/news/reader.asp
aspid=In_defense_of_Microsoft

Is it just me or is that just plain stupid?

well, then aspbuilder.net is very short sited. Many Microsoft Lovers, belive that people use linux because they are jelious, etc....

This is not the case. I use linux, because,

a) i find it easier to use and maintain as a web server.
b) it meets my needs

Correct me if im wrong, but i belive most people dont like windows because is mainly due to there marketing tatics, there monolopy on the market, and there attitude towards peoples privacy and not because they are "jelious".

Good for bill gates, he just happened to be in the right place at the right time, and has worked hard (kinda) for the money that he has earned.

I was brought up to belive that everyone should be given a fair chance, and "brainwashing" people to belive that MS is the only choice is wrong! (ask any pleb on the street what linux is and 80% wouldnt know what your talking about)

Ask any microsoft lover if they would use linux, or any other OS for that matter and most of them wouldnt even concider it.

I love linux, but that doesnt mean i dont use windows. I use 3 DIFFERENT OS's and they each have a place and purpose in my developement life.

Having said that
"LINUX RULES"

I also use Linux and Windows, both have a purpose like said above..

I think it's more productive to be using Windows as a desktop os, but for a server, linux has always been my choice as long as im not using ASP / .NET

how the article says people are 'jealous' of microsoft is wrong. however, windows is the ideal desktop OS for most people.

I have to agree with you asp_man!

I have used Windows OS from version 3.1 (ewww) and I find it sooo simple to use... when I was at Uni we had some SGI (is that the right word? .. sillicon graphics machines) which used Linux ... I think it was linux.. I cant remember!!

anyway... I was looking for all the icons when our lecturer said that you have to use "commands" to open files...... as I was a lazy student.... I immediately didnt like that!!

I like point and click. I am not saying that Microsoft are perfect... but I do agree that they have done a great lot in "simplifying" the way we use computers. Can you imaging your mum (or dad) getting home with their new PC and having to type commands to do stuff?!!! my mum has only just learnt to use the mouse! honestly!! (bless her!)

To be fair, Micrsoft have done a lot, and we are forced to use their products. At uni when they upgraded from Office 97 to Office2000... we all had to do so at home, cos we couldnt do work in 2000 then open it in 97... that annoyed me.......

but still, here I am using WindowsXP, Windows IE, windows messenger and a Microsoft Mouse.... next I will be getting up out of my Microsoft Bed covers to brush my teeth with my Microsoft Toothbrush.....

...did anyone ever read that article that "ford motor cars" released about Microsoft?! it was v funny.....

Windows.. Linux.. DOS... whatever

One of the only reasons why I like windows is the point and click.. lol.. that and I can play my games on it.. so far win2k has been the most stable gaming platform for me personally -- except for some reason I can't play GTA2, which made me really unhappy

Sometimes a command prompt is easier.. sometimes not like working with MySQL.. sometimes i get uber tired and I don't realize what im doing so I go over to my windows box and use phpMyAdmin <What a savior that is! > one day Linux will have more GUI options to it.. or even more powerful web apps to give you that oh so "GUI" feeling

new unix distro in town

I use FreeBSD for my server and for dev. I use a Win2K box for web surfing, email, and office tasks. I have used Linux in the past. I'm really itching to get myself an Apple now, after years of disliking their OS, their systems, their zealous users, and their damn company. OS X is the slickest unix distro I've ever seen. It's got all the point-and-click you could ever want, but it's also got a shell. A real unix shell, not some quasi-DOS shell. It runs ms office (I'm a fan), and photoshop natively, which of course none of my linux or unix systems have EVER been able to do. Did I mention watching and burning DVDs without hacking your way through DeCSS? (Forgive me if I'm out of the loop and this has been somehow resolved and made user-friendly.)

Additionally, I'm looking to get away from using a Win box at all, because I have no desire to ride the TCPA/Palladium bandwagon, which both MS and Intel seem dead set to force down our throats.

I'm curious what y'all have to say. I haven't owned an Apple since my basic days, circa 1981. I'd love to hear it if some of you have had negative experience using OS X, or positive experience for that matter. I want to be sure before I drop all my $$$ down Jobs' throat.

If Palladium/TCPA turns out to be what many people have predicted (ie. enforcing, controlling, gpl-unfriendly, etc) in it's final form I'm either going to start using Apple, Linux or FreeBSD.. (Apple and FreeBSD are on top of the list though)..

Right now I'm using Windows.. I've only dabbled a little bit with Linux, FreeBSD and OS X (and OS 9 too)..

I've actually never used OS X, but a friend of mine who does development work on the side loves hers.. Maybe I'll go check it out and see what I think

I've always wanted to join the OS X/Apple camp... I was so close to doing so this past summer... I was looking around for a notebook, and I would have gone for an iBook, but I was told that making the switch would be a real hassle... Not much support for Windows applications, and development on an Apple (PHP, Java, etc...) would be a pain in the neck... I didn't do much research to prove them wrong...

In the end I chose a PC, but I do sometimes regret not going over to an Apple... I've only had a few minutes to fool around with OS 9, but I'd love to check out OS X...

Maybe someday I'll jump on over...
