Beginning a game project
Hello all, I've set out in search of people who are knowledgeable enough or wanting to get a little hands on experience in game development. I have drummed up a small team of friends so far, consisting of about 3 modelers, 4 C++ programmers, not including myself at the moment as I haven't finished my course
, I have one texture artist. What I am in need of is the following...* C++ programmers with adequate knowledge of OpenGL or at least willing to learn more through experimental work. You must be fairly well seasoned in, arrays, functions, pointers, classes, inheritance, polymorphism. * I'm in need of object modelers, within the game I have a couple hundred objects, quite a bit to spread amongst the few modelers I currently have. * Character modelers * Texture artists, simply put. * Animators * Concept artists, I currently have 2 concept artists, this job is mainly based around drawing objects/characters for the modelers to work off of, with sketches the modelers can form the 3D objects needed. As is stands I have about 10 people, this is the beginning phase of the game development, I need anywhere from 50 - 100 people. The work will end up being contracted. Upon the final completion of the project there will be payment, however until the project completes it will be freelance work. I have a way with leading, I've managed several teams in the past and know how to keep things interested. If this is something you are interested i, please send me an email at upyerwoohoo2 at yahoo.com, on Xfire: Hspd7, AIM: Upyerwoohoo2. Hope you like my username, no I'm not gay, just thought I'd throw that in there to set your minds at ease At the moment I'm currently trying to staff to about 50 percent to get started, then I plan on staffing the rest of the way once we have made progress. The overall project won't start for another 5 months, until then I am analyzing ideas, seperating out classes of objects and behaviors, preparing for an easy flow of operation. We currently use teamspeak at IP: 72.36.212.90:8767 in a channel called USM Hangout the password is: USM123. Thanks for your time and I look forward to meeting you. -Highspeed |

Just a little update
Sorry all, I didn't have much time to explain much, and by the looks of it, I haven't hooked anyone... take a look at this.
For those of you who don't know me, My real name is Brian. I've been a gamer for my whole life playing games anywhere from medieval style to fps games. As I've recently taken interest in coding, I've came up with ideas and combined memories of my greatest experiences throughout my gaming carreer into a couple of potential games that have never been developed before. I feel that if I can run with this I'll open peoples eyes to a new style of gaming and possibily further revolutionize the gamming industry. I don't want to waste too much of your time, as I'm sure you don't want to read a book. I'm going to cut to the chase. Medieval - I'd like to develop a game as no one has done before that I'm aware of... There is always something missing in medieval games. For example Oblivion, the game was great it had a fully free world, you could go pretty much anywhere you wanted, it had a first person aspect unlike any I'd seen before, you would right click to bring up your shield, and left click to swing your sword, the whole thing was just great... there was one problem with this game that I could not stand, no multiplayer. The game had many many quests and was well suited for single player but after that, unless you take on a whole new idea, such as the one I've got, it wouldn't last long in multiplayer as far as player interest. Another game I used to play was called TEC (The Eternal City) the game itself was amazing, was very very complex, had a free world to roam, you could literally do anything you wanted in the game. Thieving, mercenary, bounty hunt, baditry, soldier, constable (roman police basically) you were able to interact with NPC's as well as role play with them if and when there was a GM (Game Master) on. Also, the game was multiplayer. The problem with this game, although very minor was the fact that it was all text. I tried effortlessly to get my friends involved. They just weren't interested in playing a game that wasn't graphical, the didn't want to have to read everything around them, everything that happened, and most of all didn't want to have to type out every action. I agree to a point on this mater although I'm very fast on my keyboard it often got tiresome having to type everything out, or emote everything that wasn't scripted into the game. Anyways... having combined the great aspects of the games I've played I have set forth to create a better game. One that I've never seen on the market. First of all player physics... I'm not an all out computer genius, in fact most I can offer at the moment is ideas as I'm still in the process of learning to code myself as well as how things work for the time being, I do, however, have unlimited sources and lots of refference material to know how I should run things.. I figure if I can get this rolling and get a good team together I can continue my studies, and participate in what I can until I'm finished, at that point I'll take a much bigger role in whats going on. What I'm looking for now is a group who can get started with me... brainstorm, maybe even do some material work like structure, algorithms, graphics designing, artwork, maybe even starting on an engine which the game would run off of. I need to start now or this will never get off the ground. In a medieval game I want knights, kingdoms, witches, and all the accessories, not this crazy stuff everyone else has set up, you go on a mission and level up and such, I will have a combat system of skillpoints and ranks but not so much where someone new and ill experienced goes up against someone skilled he's completely out done himself. As they say in real life, you can be the most skilled person on earth, but you can't stop a well aimed bullet, well in this case, a knife or what have you. The game will require fairly good knowlege of the keyboard as I plan to use several key bindings for different effects, for example combat, granted you'll need to use your mouse to move your character, as well as commonly "a,s,d,w" keys however in a combat situation within the game I've imagined you would use your mouse to, not just right click to raise your shield, but right click and hold while you have full range of motion with your shield, if you don't swing your shield up properly in the right direction, it will result in you not blocking an opponents attack. With the left mouse button you swing your sword freely, as with the shield, if you don't swing your sword (mouse with left click depressed) properly it may result in an ineffective attack or perhaps the person raises his shield and swings it up to block your attack (shield being mouse with right click depressed). Other things that I want in the game... A legal system, maybe based off a medieval legal system, or perhaps our own made up system. This legal system would of course consist of law enforcers NPC's (Non-Player-Characters) mixed in with qualified PC's (Player-Characters) to enforce the law of course. Within certain city, or kingdom boundaries, these enforcers would have jurisdiction. Outside the city/kingdom would be ,perhaps soldiers, incharge of peace outside city gates, these soldiers are the ones who persue bandits who've escaped from jurisdictions of enforcers within city limits or even from the soldiers themselves. The whole legal system would consist of a court for trial and error. A warant system accessable by any legal official. Jailtime would consist of real time jail sentences where a player may spend anywhere from 1 hour to perhaps 1 year in prison, I may further down the line even expand jail from a single cell to a complete prison system with guards and things a real prison would have, who knows. The possibilities are endless. Economy throughout the whole ordeal there will be a system for economic growth, monetary system, banks, and potential real estate as in players could own their own taxed land where they could build their own home. Perhaps someone could own an innercity shop. Not to mention the shops that would be NPC owned. Jobs could consist of contracted work from players or NPC's. Skills System: As many other games out there have skill systems, I do plan on implementing one into said game. However as I mentioned before I will not exactly have it to where a less skilled player couldn't defeat a more skilled player. The fact that the players will be able to move freely with their swords and shields, blocking and swinging at their own will, would asure them a chance at defeating someone more skilled. However, skills such as shield use and weapon use would determine the speed at which you swing as well as youre agility, or reaction. For example if the player personally has incredible dexterity in reality combined with really good eye-hand cordination, if he is lacking in skills in the game, the engine will modify it to reflect his skill level. A more detailed example... if you(the player) swing your sword and you are lacking in sword skills, the weight of the sword may suprise you and you will be slow at actually making your attack count, or you may drop the sword, fling the sword, or cut yourself, out of sheer lack of in game skill. This is only a partial plan of what I have in mind for this game I'm drumming up. If you have any further ideas please present them to me. At the moment my email server isn't working, however, I am generally on daily, on Xfire, AIM, and MSN, if all of these fail, please contact me via email at( upyerwoohoo2 at yahoo.com) (sorry bout the unprofessional name =D) once my normal email server gets up and running I'll provide you with that. Also please do understand that if you agree to work on this project it is entirely at your liesure as there will not be any payment until the project has completed. Once I do get things rolling and I've aquired the staff I need to tackle this project I will have a legal contract drawn up of forward agreements as well as reverse agreements for you or a parent to sign. The contract will cover, aggrement of payment, a percentage of earnings, upon the successful completion of the project. It will also consist of agreements in behavior, attendance, and aquittal of the project. If you are interested in this project please contact me by the above means telling me what you can contribute to the project and I will get back to you. Thank you, Brian Sanders (Project Lead) |
