it helps to come up with a project on your own; Something that will make your life easier.

I developed my own media cataloging program to keep track of all the MP3s I burn onto CDs.
It was a fun challenge.

If you're that bored, why not learn a new language?
Web languages are popular nowadays... and a lot of languages are similar syntax to C

If it doesn't interest you, then why are you learning to code?

Well, the project I created was done in PHP... aspects of it in Java...
Not that I oppose handing out my source, perhaps you would find it a fun challenge to develop a similar application.

Learning new languages isn't difficult, especially with a C background.
Java, PHP, Perl and many other languages are based on C's syntax.

I would never discourage anyone from learning a new language...
Why keep all your eggs in one basket, so to say...

Programming takes a LOT of patience and attention to detail. If you can't sit and search code for 30 minutes looking for what turns out to be a one character bug, programming may not be for you.....

Programming might suck if you're doing Hello World, or corny little exercises from a book.
Instead, create your own application idea... it's amazing what you'll pick up...

Feel free to make a program similar to mine...
I learnt a lot that way: database connectivity, design for the web, usability...

Wait wait... Don't get me wrong... boring, perhaps; however they're highly, and fundamentally, important to learning programming!

Examples in books, and those given to you by instructors, are usually meant to exercise a certain peice of knowledge.
I'm not discouraging that type of development, we all need to start somewhere.

My point, however, is that if you are above that level of knowledge and ready to dive into a full-blown project, do it!
If you still need to leverage some aspects of the language that you may not fully understand, then test out some exercises from a book.

Programming does take a lot of patience and attention to detail. If you're bored with working on smaller exercises, yet have never perfected one, perhaps a larger project isn't in your scope yet.

Just wait until you enter a career of programming... the junior years of a true programming job are spent analyzing and fixing other people's code... often you don't even write your own code until you've proven yourself on smaller projects...

Be careful, your posts over the past week are just begging for a warning. Stop insulting people for no legitimate reason.

I've finished my University education, and have a a couple years experience with a full time job at an enterprise corporation...
I've been interested in programming since at least fifteen... it's been the interest that drives me...
Avoid comparing yourself to others though... you'll never get anywhere...
Just remember, we all had to start somewhere

I keep reading your line "my bro said its difficult to learn to languages" and it's driving me nuts! =)

Picking up new languages is simple... it's the construct and fundamentals that one must master...
Simple things like loops, conditionals, and method calls/declarations are the same/similar in most languages.

Learning another language helps you understand why another language acts the way it does.
You gain experience by trial-and-error...

Well yeah thats what my bro siad cause when he went to high school he studied java and he knows nothing of C++ and i was talkin to him about C++ and he said he has some interest in learnin but he doesnt recommend anyone to learn two languages in the same time first he said to atleast know how to program in one atleast to go to the other before goin to the other one and also dont worry i wont compare myself to another person
also the only reason i decided to do this C++ is cause i think it would be fun (which it is when i do fun things)
i want to make my own games in the future and make kool mods for games cause my cousin is in that business stuff so he got me the compiler so i only need to buy books and stuff like that to learn
also dude u said only a couple of years which i consider 3-5 years of programing and one more thing r u workin for a big corporation and if its famous which one is it

and for u b con dont wrry i wont be saying more worse stuff than that so dont wrry

also thanks both of u cause u both increase my C++ skills by a lot (even though i am still not good at this but still thanks for the help b con and madcow and the other guy that told me something that help which i forgot what was ur name)

I work in the IT department of a non-information technology related company... it's nation-wide (Canada) and does have some departments internationally, so the code I touch is used by people all over the place. That's kinda pleasure-ful =)

If you know C++, Java should be easy to pick-up... no pointers, but more focus on object-oriented stuff. However, for good game programming and game mods, C++ might help you better than Java.

Leverage the knowledge of your brother and cousin, they'll get you to where you want to go... Just make sure you have a good starting base, hence, read books! A good programmer can teach him/herself, and also feed off of others.
