ColdFusion, or ColdFish?

Hey all,

I've just returned from a Macromedia Seminar in the UK.... it was a seminar which they showed everyone the pro's of ColdFusion MX and Flash Player 6.0 (Flash MX).

I have never used cold fusion before, but they made it look soooooooo easy to deploy.... does anyone use it, and if so, what are the prices attached for a host? also, is it really as easy as they suggested?!!

Thanks,

I'm a big Cold Fusion fan (and professional developer), and would be a Flash fan if I could find time to learn it. I have had excellent support and luck with HostMySite.com, which host my hobby site http://www.metalunderground.com for $30 a month with CF and SQL Server 2000. It's a pretty good deal for CF hosting, but I'm sure you can find cheaper for PHP/MySQL if you know them already.

Once you have the understanding of how server-side scripting/coding works, I don't know that any of the languages are difficult. I have used ASP with success with little experience, but CF lets me do crazy stuff I have no clue how to do in ASP. Not that you can't do it in ASP, but I think that CF is less strict on structure, which may make it easier to pick up for the newbs.

2¢ from a CF guy.

dgibson, do you have any code samples or examples of a simple coldfusion "script"? I want to see how it works..

Maybe you have some links to CF sites?

It uses a tag structure similar to HTML.
