dynamic servers

Hi, my name is shep, i have a few things going- a couple of sites up- opensourceservers.com and opensourcenetworks.com

anyways i am running a few scripts but am interested in any tips on better ones- i don't want to put the cart before the horse and need to get my smtp server running right so the pages are buggy, once i get that ironed out I plan on trying out jffnms.

heres the real question though- i want to backup images of drives over my network what is the best bet for this? I am playing around drive image but his is only on windows- can I use samba to do something like this or do i need to use a specific tool like burt or amanda or taper- pls enlighten me! i need to get backed up now- i have enough computers and drives so i may be able to just make a dedicated image server.

I have been poking around for some sort of blog that will store entries as xml- also very interested in any real deal open directory like scripts- ones that will cache the rdf right in mysql.

I have looked at phplinks and may have another stab at that since it is along the lines of what i think is proper (alias fancy apache index) and dynamically generating the arrays in each directory according to what you want- popularity, newness, etc.

drop me a line! shusted@maine.rr.com

Thumbs up

Try smbtar.
It comes with the samba package. It is designed to simplify backing network shares. An example

$ smtar -v -s genesis chapter10

genesis is the computer name, while chapter10 is it's shared directory.

In this case a TAR archive is crerated of the files from //genesis/chapter10 and stores in file named tar.out.
