Flat Panels (LCD) - what to get?

Hey kids,

I'm getting an LCD monitor, but I'm not too cluey on the ins-&-outs of monitor terminology.

Currently, it seems most affordable LCD's max out @ 1280x1024. Which is fine, cos that's what I run my CRT at now. I've found a 19" Acer LCD - which would be kewl, but it only runs @ 1280 - which would be like running 800x600 on a 15" yeah? ****.

So I'm currently thinking about getting a Samsung 181T - it's 18", max 1280x1024 - so shouldn't be too bad.

Anyone have any experiences/recommendations?

Stumpy,

Acer isn't a bad brand for LCDs... But if I had my choice, I'd go with the Samsung... Better name, and it seems that the options it offers (resolution) better suit your needs.

Funny you mentioned the 800x600 on a 15" monitor... Most of my systems were at that... I've only got 1 running at that now (my mother doesn't like the smaller text/icons), and my other desktop is running at 1024x768 (both 15")... I've got my notebook running at 1280x1024, also a 15" LCD...

Either way, I would weigh out the options, and choose the one that suits you best. The prices of LCDs have dropped quite a bit lately, so now is a good time to buy!

I personally would buy a Samsung, Sony, or LG flat panel. Currently I own a 15" Acer which I had to send in for service after 2 months of use so I myself will not buy Acer again. I also own a 15" Asus LCD flat panel which works great.

I also read somewhere a 15" LCD = 17" CRT. Hope this helps!
