Format Win XP
I was trying to format my win xp system to install linux but I cannot figure out how to format the system partition can someone help me. And it is an older system compaq amd 4?? and do not know the key to get into the bios to switch it to boot from the cd first if at all possible. Can someone help me? Thank you in advance

The easiest way is to generally boot from the Linux distro CD... but as you've mentioned you've tried that... Perhaps you should look into fixing your BIOS, or if its locked for a rease, perhaps you shouldn't proceed with formatting the system?
But otherwise, you may want to create a boot disk and boot from a floppy drive. This way you can fdisk the partition(s), or run the appropriate executable from the cd. |

Try to pull out the jumper next to the BIOS-battery, boot, shutdown again and put the jumper back. If there is no jumper just take out the battery for a few minutes. This will reset your BIOS completely. I think you can enter it again then. Otherwise, try the logical keys for entering the BIOS:
