future for computer games

So I hope you guys know about the new consoles coming soon so I was wondering what you guys thought about comuter games and do you guys like what the console is doing in the gaming community of not why?
Also would you guys pay for a new videocard just for a new good game?

I think a gaming console should remain just that, a GAMING console...
All these new ones have DVD players and internet and microwaves...
I swear they'd be half the price if they took all that junk out.

I still love my SNES.

Chances are I wouldn't buy a whole new video card JUST to play a game...
If I am in the market to get a video card, I may pay that little extra just for the ability to play all those games I didn't play in the past.

I may not be the best person to ask... gaming isn't really my forte...

I do still love my SNES though... =)

I don't play consoles; PC games are enough of a time-suck. In a way, I suppose I do buy video cards so I can play a game (the last one I bought was for TRON 2.0). But, when I decided to buy that, games like Doom 3, Half-Life 2, Vampire:Bloodlines, etc., were just on the horizon, and I knew I'd need it for them. It seems graphics engine quality and memory needs progress in cycles. For every game you're card can't handle today, there'll be at least five more next year.

Video games were meant to be played on computers, it says so in the Bible.

I highly dislike all the bling-bling features that have been added to gaming platforms, they're going to be indistinguishable from PC's before long

Yes, I would have to agree Bcon that they will not be distinguishable between pc's but in the same respect there's a lot of nerds out there that don't know about computers let alone know how to operate one, or cant afford a pc so the only other alternative is a console. But your right and I totally agree with you all, I have even begun to wonder why I even have a xbox and a ps2 because half the time unless they come out with a good game, like Xbox's splinter cell, they are no match to a good puter game.

Yeah, like in Ghost Recon, the graphics for the PS2 couldn't touch the PC version

New consoles are often upwards of $500... one can easily buy a PC for that price... I suppose you won't be able to play the equivalent games on said computer... Then again, consider how much more a PC can do than a console.

I bought an Xbox last year, with the sole intention of modding it. I changed the BIOS chip and replaced the hard drive. This way I could copy movies and emulators to the hard drive and play older games (and watch recorded tv shows) on my television. I could also copy my Xbox CDs onto the hard drive and play the games 100x faster.

Anyone BSOD'd on their XBox yet?

I haven't, don't have an xbox, or any other type of console. PC's are indeed usually higher quality, and I prefer a mouse/keyboard and eventually a joystick over a controller.

I like the fact that I can install Linux on my Xbox, however I'd rather not lose it's Xbox funtionality.
I did consider it though. =)

Truth be told, I can't solder if my life depends on it.
I actually found someone to do it for me, for a faily inexpensive price.

I have some good resources at home that I may be able to direct you to.
The benefits are well worth it!

Were's Home MadCowDzz. =) I live in Florida. Well, I can solder but never done any technical soldering before usually just fusing wiring harness and crap for motorcycles but other than that never messed with hardware crap. Would like to though, I guess first things first is to take that sucker apart and see for myself =)> and see what I can break.

Soldering is easy, I've even done some soldering on motherboards, replacing a blown serial port controller, or a damaged ATA chip, stuff like that.

I'm sure I could solder if I absolutely needed to... but fudging up my new expensive Xbox wasn't a high priority... I figured I would find someone else who's done many before. I remember frying some boards back in high school during my electronics class.

As it turns out, I forgot to check when I was at home =)
Perhaps later today I can find some of the sites I used to attend to.

Nah but thinking on that PSP also thinking about that PS3 and the Revolution.
But what about you, you got one.

I am not cause even though I have a X-Box and like the games I think that X-Box could have been better but instead we (or I) see the PS3 being better so instead I am going to make money then buy the PS3 maybe but first I got to get me a PSP(even though their game suck) but I like the features.

Also I know this is bad place and I hope no one gets mad but what graphics card should I buy cause I have been thinking of getting one for the new games coming up for the PC and I do not care of the price for the card I just want one that will support the games for 3 through 5 years coming. If you got any idea in what I should buy I'll be glad to hear them(I mean read them)

I just don't get the PSP... I think it's a giant waste... well, handheld, somewhat small, waste... Why are you going to buy specially sized discs to watch movies? The only place you can ever watch that movie is on that system... The games are mediocore... I'd rather buy an actual console...

I haven't bought the Xbox 360... truthfully, i'm not a terribly big gamer... If I were, however, I would still wait for the PS3 to come out so I can properly compare the two systems... Why spend $500 now on 360 when PS3 may better suit your needs... if the time comes and you decide you do want the 360, then more games will be available at that time...

I don't understand the rush to buy the system 0day...

The person I went to charged me $90 for chip and installation... he had a cheaper chip with less memory banks, and a more expensive one with more memory banks... i odn't know how memory banks help your modded xbox, but I chose the moderate one (as he recommended)

He didn't charge me for installing the hard drive (obviously I provided my own hard drive)...

I found the guy on a forum, advertising for my area... I was nervous going to a stranger on the internet, but he ended up being a uni student just trying to make a buck... (taking electrical engineering or something)

I highly encourage modding, you end up getting so much more out of your system... (note, I don't encourage piracy)

After I beat the internet (that last boss is tough as heck), all other video games just don't do it for me.

Many of the games I do play aren't really available on consoles:

I like to play First Person TroubleShooters-- rooting and finding the bugs plaguing my systems... I almost got that really nasty fiend, Windows, but like Bowzer, every time I get close, he runs off to take over another screen.

I hear that's like a combination between Reality TV and PC Games... they call it "Reality Games"... the highly anticipayed "Reality Game" release of next year is dubbed "Windows Vista"...

To quote an article on Annoyances.org:

Is Windows a Virus?

No, Windows is not a virus. Here's what viruses do:

* They replicate quickly - okay, Windows does that.

* Viruses use up valuable system resources, slowing down the system as they do so - okay, Windows does that.

* Viruses will, from time to time, trash your hard disk - okay, Windows does that too.

* Viruses are usually carried, unknown to the user, along with valuable programs and systems. Sigh... Windows does that, too.

* Viruses will occasionally make the user suspect their system is too slow (see 2) and the user will buy new hardware. Yup, that's with Windows, too.

Until now it seems Windows is a virus but there are fundamental differences:Viruses are well supported by their authors, are running on most systems, their program code is fast, compact and efficient and they tend to become more sophisticated as they mature.

So Windows is not a virus.

It's a bug
