How do you dual boot windows OS and linux?

Hello there,

I was wondering if anyone knows how to dual boot Windows 98 and Ubuntu Linux.
I would like to have only one OS in the machine, but the thing is my family still needs to use
Windows 98 and I just had enough of using Windows 98. I looked at search engines trying to find
the ways to dual boot these two OS's but I haven't found anything useful yet. So, while I am
still searching for the answer to this issue, it would be tremendously helpful for me if you could give any
sort of advices or ideas.

Thank you very much in advance.

Sincerely,

Young

First off, you'll need to partition your drive... one partition for Linux and the other will be for Windows...

I generally install Windows first, then try to install Linux. The reason being, windows seems to enjoy erasing hard drives; Don't get me wrong, Linux will too if you don't read the prompts correctly.

Most modern Linux installers will recognize that you have a drive with Windows on it, and will ask you what to do. All of the one's I installed came with GRUB, the boot manager.

this means everytime you turn on your PC, you'll be prompted for which operating system to boot up in. There's a default you can set, so if no one touches anything in 30 seconds (for example), it'll boot to Windows (or linux, your choice).

Please realize, I havent had experience installing Ubuntu Linux, and I take no responsibilty if you erase your family's computer =)

*BACK UP EVERYTHING IMPORTANT FIRST*
