Exclamation How do you partition a hard drive WITHOUT USING Partition Magic

Hello there,

A few weeks ago (I think), I posted a thread asking people how to dual boot in order
to have two operating systems in one machine. The moderator kindly told me everything,
which I had to do, which I found helpful most of the time. Now, here's just one more problem.
I found this site where I can download PartitionMagic 7 for free. Unfortunately, I had trouble
downloading this bloody software, and I never got to download the software. So I want to know
if anyone knows the procedure of partitioning the hard drive without using any of this software.
In other words, how do I partition in worst case scenario? I told the moderator that I was going
to dual boot in the home machine (windows 98 second edition already installed). But I changed my
mind and decided to dual boot on my laptop (Windows XP Professional already installed). Can somebody
PLEEEEEASE help me? Thank you in advance and Merry Christmas to all.

Sincerely,
Young

P.S. Just in case, the site where I TRIED to download PartitionMagic 7.0 :

Okay, here's the deal. Your laptop system has XP already running on it with information...so re-partitioning it without second vendor software is not an option if you don't want to lose the data that's already on it. Here's an alternative to Partition Magic >>>linky<<< If you don't care about reloading XP on the laptop, then do just that, but instead of XP using the entire disk, scale it back to a resonable sice, and leave enough room for the secondary OS.

peace

Hello there,

Is there anyway I can use this Ranish Partition Manager WITHOUT USING A FLOPPY DRIVE? I tried to install this thing after downloading it from the website you recommended, and it continuously asks me to insert a formatted floppy drive into the machine. Unfortunately, my machine did not come with floppy drive when I first bought it.

Talking

You may use your administrative tool to extend your partition, but that may destroy your data.

but I recommend you download some freeware and have a try!

paragon -I have not used,no comment!

easeus partition manager
I download from brother soft.

It worked OK, but failed when i tried to merge partition. so i have to allocated the free space to another partition. Partition magic may merge two partitions which will cost you $69.95

cute partition manager
you could download it from giveawayoftheday.

I like to use those Manuel switches they have in the 3.5 bays. You have two hd's and just switch the IDE/Sata with a switch on the front of your computer. Makes life simple and if you lose one os to HD failure you don't lose both.

I see that you are on a windows operating system. You could actually manage all your hard drives and its partitions when your right click the my computer sign.

It is actually easy though you have to back up your files before doing the partition as they would get erased in the process unlike in the mac where partitioning it would be a pretty straight forward thing to accomplish.

You have to be using an administrator account to accomplish that though.
