Just thought I would introduce myself...
Hi folks, I am a newbie to the DevArticles community and I wanted to introduce myself to you and hope we become best of friends. I am a wannabe PHP programmer but the most advanced thing I can do is probably a crap login script so the only language I know 100% is HTML. I know bits of everything but it doesn't help if you can't do anything constructive with it
![]() Anywayz, I hope to fit in with all you webdesign gurus and hope to give and receive some good tips and advice from fellow webmasters. Vince. |

Welcome vince to the devArticles forums. Its great that you want to learn PHP! yay for PHP!
Also HTML.... 100%.... I wouldnt be saying that. A more correct term is advanced HTML, as you can never know everything about HTML, even i still find out new things about it ![]() |

Welcome to the party, Vince
I think what ben is getting at is that everyone is always learning and no one will ever know everything about everything.. Except for me of course, but I'm an exception to the rule.. and if I don't know the answer I'll make one up that sounds good.. *nods and grins* Ok.. but seriously, welcome, I'm sure that we can make your learning experiences fun, if not, then.. well I don't know what to tell you! ![]() |

PHP rocks. Big time. I don't understand much of it - much of the manual is like a forest of darkness still for me - but I have learnt the basics.
Over time I have found it very easy to construct simple routines with that are a great help with HTML. It's kind of like a 'super HTML' where variables are now possible, even random things. I love the way you can dip in and out of PHP code in your HTML page. I started creating a script to read a text file saved from Access, so I had a database. From there, I've used PHP again and again. Recently I managed to get PHP to process a XML document so now I have a new kind of database to play with. OK, I used a free script to do this, but a lot of tweaking was still necessary. That's another beauty of PHP - there are so many free scripts out there that you can twist and mangle until they work for you - while learning how PHP works at the same time. |
