As far as what language/tools to use, and having been in your position about 5 years ago, my advice would be to use tools/lanugage that:
a) you want to work with in the future b) more importantly, will get you into the industry (assuming of course you want to work in IT when you're done !) The most difficult part about working in IT is getting your foot in the door, after that, it's fairly easy to move around.Hence, I'd suggest picking something mainstream like .NET, C++ or Java. We used PowerBuilder a fair bit during my course and I don't recall ever having seen a job going for it since. With regards to a topic, pick something that you might actually be able to implement afterwards (we wrote a cataloging/hire system for the tv studio's). Building a real world system will prepare you a little more for real world projects, and if you can show a prospective employer that your project is in use, this will appeal to them a great deal more than a "theorectical" project. |

I think within next few years WebServices and Grid Computing are going to play a very important or Major role in the Information Technology across the globe. So it is a good idea to make a little research on WebServices and to do an excellent academic project out of it. In industry you will see there are basically two types of tool available for WebServices. Microsoft and its .NET arsenal and IBM, SUN, Oracle with their Java and Java related tools. Here are some idea what you can do with webservices in academic project. (I mentioned academic project, because in academic project you cn do lots of research and you can implement fantasy, and later your fantasy can become an idea to solve a problem in industry). Idea 1: ========== WebService, Database, Multimedia and Grid computin: Please browse the following link, and see the Microsoft's legendary Database Guru Dr. Jim Gray is doing: http://research.microsoft.com/~Gray/ I am sure you will find something interesting for your project. Idea 2: ========== If you are interested in Grid Computing, follow the link below http://www.buyya.com/ And you can also join Globus Project to make your own project. And My Suggestion: Never tune your academic project to match with some industry requirement, industry is a very dynamic place. Try to obtain as much knowledge about as many things as possible from academic project! And you will feel more confident once you step into the industry. Thanks for the help but.....
Greetings once again, Hope to be in your finest health and times.
Talking about the academic project...., I'm already working as an Network administrator for an oil company as a 10 year contract (my skills at high school got me this work and i'm happy with it). My company gave me scholarship to study any thing in bachelors so i chose this degree. Moreover I don't want to pursue anything in programming later in my life. I have to submit the project get a minimum 'C' grade to keep my final grades to A+. So i want something simple and that works. It is because coming back from work and then sitting to finish the project is too tiresome believe me this not my first. that's all hope you can tell me about a topic thats easy and not tiresome.
