Touble installing Debian Linux in my laptop

Hello,

I just partitioned my hard drive disk using PartitionMagic, so that I can install Debian Linux on my laptop. I already have Windows XP installed inside. I inserted the bootable CD containing the ISO file for the Intel System (i386) and
re-booted the system. I get the following message:

non-system or disk error. replace and strike any key when ready

I am not sure exactly what to do at this point. Does anyone have any idea what to do next? Thank you in advance.

Young

P.S. I checked my BIOS for booting device as well: here's how it was setup
Primary Booting Device: CD-ROM
Secondary Booting Device: Hard Drive Disk
Tertiary Booting Device: Floppy Disk

Happy New Years!!

What i did in Partition Magic was go to the top menu and select "Tasks"-> "Install Another Operating System".

Choose "Linux", When I did this I had to add "SWAPSPACE".

Not sure if this helps but it worked for me, I installed Win2k then Red Hat. Maybe Xp reads this as currupt?

The error message Non system disk or disk error happens when you are trying to boot off a device such as a floppy, hard drive, or cd-rom that does not contain boot files, or the boot files may be corrupted. Partition magic probably ruined your boot sector of the main boot drive when it repartitioned it.

Check and make sure you are trying to boot to the correct device. If you are, then check out this KB article from Microsoft on repairing the boot sector with the recovery console:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307654

hope this helps
