UK and Australia

Hello,
Just wonder which of the above countries is the better place to study Computer Science. And should one take Software Engineering or Computer Science (my friend says SE is like pig-farming whereas CS is like farming)?

It depends on which University it is !

its like when u compare colleges in US an Other countries. you will be sure to find a college in US which is crappier than colleges in other countries. But it doesn't mean all colleges in US is crappy. eg MIT, Stanford and Carnegie Mellon !!

I would say to look in The Netherlands or Germany. I think 90% of worthwhile software comes out of those two countries

uk universities are ****ty. they luck everythin in teaching at this highest level. teachers unexperienced for the subject they are teaching, maybe 10% know what they are talking about and so on.
i been there, finished my degree last year ( 98% self thought ). if you are looking for a better quality teaching where you want to learn something try somewhere else.

I don't want to study in US. I prefer UK. But my friends say UK sucks. They say other than those prestigious Unis, the rest are crappier than Unis in Australia (maybe they're persuading me to study in Aus).

quit mouthin off at UK universities!! I went to one, and it was absolutely brilliant. Best time of my life...
I will agree with you that some Uni's are terrible, but I went to Central Lancashire, which is not a "red brick" uni, such as Oxford, but it is one of the best in the country. 20,000 students pass through there every year...that many can't be wrong.

Some Uni's are better than others for different areas... I believe Leeds is good for computing. Mine was good for Multimedia, which I what I studied... but I did a module in software Development, and I thought the quality of the teaching was very poor.......

My friend is at Uni in Sydney, and he says it is brilliant.... and I suppose you get much better weather there! UK sucks for weather... looking out of the window now, it is raining.... it's meant to be summer g'damn it!!

IMO, UK is very good for Uni, and a nice place to live...well, some parts are better than others...!!

check out http://www.ucas.ac.uk/ for information about courses and Uni's in the UK. - UCAS are the main body for governing higher education courses......

good luck!!

I probably should mention the price of going to Uni in the UK... it isn't cheap!
I did a three year course and I owe around £9000, which is about $15,000 or $17,000? - all that was just to pay for the tuition fees, accommodation, and of course I needed a faster computer hehe!!

I don't really know... but the Uni I was at had a lot of over seas students.... most Uni's have strong international links with other Uni's.... for info about scholarships, I'd suggest looking at www.ucas.ac.uk....apart from that I dont know, sorry!

I hate the hot weather throughout the year here in Malaysia. The weather in UK seems to suit me. Are you sure Leeds is good at computing? What about the other Unis like Machester and Liverpool? [fakker] Where are you from?
