Question Want a site like devArticles?

Hi Everyone,
Mitch here, owner of devArticles. I'm currently working on a complete web based php/mysql package that uses the engine of devAdmin (our administration web app) to power a complete content driven website, just like devArticles.

The app works with a MySQL database and features WYSIWYG online HTML editing for articles, authors, topics, books, news, etc. The package also comes with a number of site templates which implement and extract the save articles etc from the MySQL database. The package can be used to create and maintain any kind of content driven website, for topics ranging from programming to golf to entertainment, etc.

So with this package you could have a complete site with a professional web based WYSIWYG admin system setup and running in about 5 minutes. The templates are of high quality (im working on them now) just like devarticles, and templates can be modified/changed easily.

I've spent the last couple months working on this and it is going to be released commercially, mainly to support devArticles. At this point in time I would like peoples feedback on this idea.

Normally you could pay a developer anywhere up to $10,000 for a site like this, but with the package i'm making it will be way way way way way way way way way cheaper than this.

Anyhow, what do you think of the package i'm making? Would you use it? Do you see potential for it, what would you pay for it, etc, etc, etc. Keep in mind that I am a professional developer with 7 years experience and both the admin app and site are of extreme quality (just like this site )...

Thanks guys, your feedback is appreciated.

Hi, is it a cms system you are making?

if so how would it compare to Xoops and postnuke?

I do see one feature I like is where your front page calls the last post from the forum.

If you have good user and admin documentation that comes with the system, this is would be good, just like Vbulletin does. this is something that is generally lacking in free cms systems.

or at least well written documentation.

I like the idea/concept you are putting together, however without knowing what all the featurs and system requirements are it's difficult to comment too much on it.

I mean it all sounds good but until you get to the stage of actually making documentation avaiable for it I will certainly have a closer look at what you are doing.

or is there more info on what you are doing somewhere?

thanks.

Why you need a commercial script when you can create a portal with xoops

Hi Mika,
Well ConMan is for those who don't have the time to sit down and create the database, scripts, WYSIWYG editing, etc. It's for people who want their own site quickly.

XOOPS looks great, no denying that, but the screenshots are a bit vague. Does it include WYSIWYG editing, multi-page real-time article creation, etc?

I think we may have to take a look at it and write an article on how to set it up and use it

Yes, ConMan is great. The price is affordable. The one thing the product is really lacking is documentation. The User Guide is a start, but something professional with diagrams, etc., and using PDF format, would probably attract people--especially the not-so-savvy.

I know I spent a few tried figuring out how things worked because there was no documentation.

All said, however, ConMan is a wonderful product and will be put to good use by me soon. I'm kind of holding out for the 3.0 release though.......

Hey Mytch, does siteworks pro have a shopping cart on it? I didn't see anything mentioned in the documentation but I know someone who likes it but needs a shopping cart.
