What do you do to relax after hours of coding?

Hi -

What do you do to relax after hours in front of the computer?

I normally feel the need to do something a wee bit strenuous, so I take long bike rides through the neighborhood at dusk - otherwise my mind's too active and I'll jabber about coding to anyone who'll listen .

Hi laidbak! Reading your comment I realized that, the natural superiority of woman is a biological fact, and a socially acknowledged reality.

Who the hell said:

"The only comfort of my life
Is that I never yet had wife."

I usually go play some XBox or head to a friends house, or to my girlfriends house, but here lately I've been looking for work so I haven't been doing any coding at all..

LOL! That's too funny, Laidbak!! You go boyee!

I'm with Stumpy... When does relaxation start?!

In the words of my girlfriend, "I'll relax when I'm dead!"

I recently learned that if I take really short but frequent breaks I feel much better and am more productive throughout the day. It is sort of hard to do this when you are in a micromanaged company, but some of us are fortunate enought to not be in that type of environment.

I agree!

Hey laidbak -

I agree! Taking short breaks throughout the day is very helpful and stress-relieving. I normally assign myself tasks based on how I feel on a given day and then take breaks once I've accomplished set goals and need to switch gears.

I'm not into take out lunches any more - both my wife and I like to cook and it's nice to take the time out to cook and have a relaxed lunch before returning to work. Sometimes we don't finish the work day until after 7:00pm, but when you figure in the breaks, running errands, etc., you still get 8 hours plus of work done a day.

Anyone reading this post: don't stint on the breaks man! Be good to yourself.

Robsta

I need to train myself into taking short breaks... or taking breaks period. I often find myself working straight for hours on end without taking a break.

When I do take breaks, I find that I'm more productive when I return. Giving your brain that small amount of time to think of something, other than what you're doing, is enough to regain your thoughts and start fresh.

Lightbulb

Relax, hm? Do I know that word?????

I watch my kids in their various classes, help them with their practicing and homework; drive them around and sing along with the radio or CDs (yeah, I'm keeping my day job!).

I also practice my violin, read books instead of going to sleep when I should, and run and/or kickbox several times a week. These are all stress-relievers for me, and, therefore, can be relaxing.

Oh. Yeah. And browse forums?

relax

I have heard of this thing "relax". I think it is a mythical thing akin to "extrta cash" that they offer at grocery stores when you pay with a bank card.

What do you do to relax after hours of coding?

more coding... on a personal basis and not work/school related...

however, i'm also into electronic music creation and working on learning guitar... video games, can't forget the video games... and online ******... but, uh, you didn't hear that last one from me... ;-)

in terms of music, i love my music live and loud... can't help but enjoy concerts big time... more of an addiction than a hobby really...
