Where Did You Get Your Name?

Alright...

Well, I'm sure we've all wondered how or why most of us use the names we do in these forums.

It's always fun to see how everyone got their names (whether they were nicknames, whether they were made up while "influenced" ( ), or whether you just chose a random word from the dictionary)...

It also gives us some insight into the weird and whacky personalities we all have!

So without further ado... I'll start the thread by pulling off the covers, and revealing the meaning behind the one we call "FrankieShakes"... I had to make it a little over-dramatic!

It's not a very interesting story... but it sure as hell suits me...

It was about 5 years ago, I was out with some friends one night (nice warm summer weather), and we were talking about one of the parties we had been to the week before... We had decided to go because one of my favourite DJs (at the time) was playing...

Anyways, while we were reminiscing (sp?) about the night, one of my friends turned to me and said, "Man, you're always moving... You can never sit still... It's like you have the shakes or something!"... And from that moment on, FrankieShakes was tatooed as the name!

Not very interesting is it? But it's true... the hyperactive kid I once was is what earned me the name I shall forever be known as... HAHA!

Alright... Who's next?

LAIDBAK

Laidbak, my nickname of almost 10 years, was given to me by some friends of mine. They would always comment on how calm I was. I've even gotten into scaps with kats twice my size, yet just before the encounter I was as relaxed as a male in cold water.

Many people tend to comment to me how calm I am in pretty much any situation... as a matter of fact, a developer friend of mine just mentioned this about a week ago.

As with Frankie's nick, I wouldn't say it is particularly exciting how I was dubbed laidbak, however, the story is true and the name is justified.

Mine came from the days when I used to roleplay on IRC... one of my favorite characters (even from the D&D days) was Nicat (pronounced Ny-Cat) Then my first administration position as an IRCop was given to that name, so that's how everyone knew me online... eventually I tacked on the 23, since it was the only number that I could get to stick on the end of my handle

I even had a friend of mine draw up a picture of what I thought that Nicat would look like in the RP world, I'll post it later when I go home for lunch...

Well it's evident my name is boring, but I am curios about the folks that help me on an almost hourly basis. So ill start by giving some personal, yet not to personal info.

Age : 22
Location : Miami, FL US
Schooling : architectural design, 3d modeling/animation (not that it matters just an excuse for the lack of programming knowledge)

I know this is pretty stupid, but I cant help wonder if the person on the other end of my post is some kid like Vince who probably knows more about programming than I ever will.

My compliments to the site and its moderators, all amazing!!!

Thanks

Dave

Everyone knows varying things, that's why the community is so wonderful You get to have a collective of opinions and ideas, and bountiful amounts of knowledge. Everyone has their own style... everyone knows things that others don't

Personally I'm 22, going to school for Network information systems between work and a semi social life with my girlfriend

I'm also interested in cryptology (which is also part of the reason why I got the name that I did... friends gave me the nickname cat when I would sneak around people's computer systems either at school or in public, or at home... I was the guy to call if you needed something done, or you didn't know how to fix things the Ni part came later when the same friend said I was a "Night Cat" (another long story about insomnia ))

Anyway! In the future I want to be doing cryptology work, or working doing data forensics for the FBI that's why I'm minoring in Criminal Justice...

I see that dfano is using my nickname function too...

This is a great thread!

I chose "numbernine" from that Beatles "song," "Revolution 9," where some dude intones "number nine" over and over for the length of it.

Hey Havard!! Welcome back buddy!!

Hahaha... Can't get any more to the point than that! Although, to make it a little more interesting, you could have said:

My mother met a man (my dad), got married, took his name, and when I was born, so did I!

I go by the name Packetloss nowadays online. Since I have been gaming with a 56k modem my whole life, I have always been lagging and getting tons of packetloss. So when it came time to create a new name for myself I found no better choice then Packetloss

The epic story of MadCowDzz

It all began in 1995... I wanted something with an X or a Z in it... naturally, they're the coolest letters of the alphabet... I mean, not to say there's anything wrong with I, J, or T... then again, that H letter's a little weird... uh, anyways...

ya, well, for the first couple months i went by NaiLz... but later decided it was too close to common, and I eventually dropped it and went with my real name typed in gOoFy cApS... this lasted for about a year... but I had to add numbers to the end to get an email address... This did not please me! Finally, it hit me!

Mad Cow Disease... (uh, hit me as in the metaphorical term... didn't actually contract the virus)... Obviously the full term is too long... I debated dropping the last word and just going as MadCow, but that's way too common... Remembering the original goal of including an X or a Z in my name, i realized that two Z's together form the sound "sease" [unless you pronounce it zed, coz that just messes up everything]...

so I finally chose the term MadCowDzz...

...and the legend of MadCowDzz shall live on!
