Yeah, Ben is right... Plus, there's no point in developing a site just for developing's sake... The site would get stale very quickly, as you'd soon lose interest...

Think of something you already have an interest in, and build that up!

Vince,

I find that when i am trying to do something for the sake of doing it i get stuck. I recomend that you give your self a problem and try to solve it so you learn some thing. The content could be anything.

Hope that helps,

Dave

why dont you make some sort of development articles website? I think that'd be a great idea!! ehehehe!!

- only kiddin...!! I agree with the others, you gotta make something that you're interested in, other wise it'll seem like a chore to finish it.... start small, and build up!!

Community sites are always good fun, but you gotta find something that people have not talked about before... what about a local community site for your home town? List businesses etc.... then get the residents to "chat" about their town...... just an idea!!

hey dude,

Why don't u go ahead and build a personal resource having sections that interest you. You can power this website using a real time web publishing tool like Movabletype.

I just did this on my site, basically it helps you keep a track of whatever stuff you experiment with and keep posting it there. Even if a lot of visitors don't come there, you atleast have a resource that you can refer to always !

Cheers

This would be a good chance to develop a site to showcase your skills. You were thinking about starting a company, why not create a personaly site showcasing your skills and areas of interest? I know, you were thinking about a bigger site... how about one that nobody has thought of before, unfortunatly they are hard to come by because how are you supposed to think of it when nobody on the face of the planet has thought of it yet. A more realistic approach would be to put a spin on something that has been done before, perhaps, take two of your favourite sites and conbine them, (the ideas I mean... not the actual sites), And unless you are a freak, those sites will attract people that were interested in both areas.

Watch out though, be careful that if you do start out with a fairly big project you dont overwhealm yourself and give it up.

Another idea would be to start an open source project if you were interested in that type of stuff. sf.net will host it, proviiding you meet their requirements, and they also provide a lot of space and a decent URL.

In the end, just think about what intersts you though, that is what you dont get bored of, and you will follow through with your plans...

oh, one more idea. Do you like hacking (not that type of hacking, s/w hacking/modding?). You could hack phpBB or IBF or other big forums or other big projects like that and start your own site with your modifications/hacks.

Well, that is about all I can come up with for now, I may be back though

oh... I am back for a bit, How about making a blog... there are tonnes of them, i know, but people do read them. And if you discuss controversial issues you are bound to get noticed.
