Help needed,novice needs to design football site..

Hi everyone, as the only computer literate person on our football league I've been asked to design a site for the league. Basically it will consist of 30 teams in two league tables.

I need to have all the details and photos of the 30 teams on the site along with the 2 league tables which I will have to update on a weekly basis with the win, lose, draw & points etc.

Whats the best way of doing this, as a novice what software should I use, I actually have Dreamweaver on my comp but I think it may be beyond me..

Any advice welcome..

At least you recognise your limitations. With 30 teams, the first thing I would do is recruit some help, don't take on something by yourself that's over your head when you have that much of a pool to get help from. Don't make the mistake of doing this by yourself, it will come back to bite you later. You can't please everyone, and although no one has readily voluntered to help you so far, you can bet they'll be volunterring their criticism later.
Designing is one thing, developing the back end is another.
First thing is to get each team to appoint a "contact" representative. That way you only have to deal with 30 other people, not the whole league. Get their feedback on what they would like the site to look like. Put together a few templates and put it to a vote. Then tweak the winning template a few ways and put it to a vote again. As to the back end, a good CMS should allow each team rep to update their team's info without you having to do it. This kind of thing can be more than a full time job if you let it get out of control.

"design a template and tweak it" would be great...but the problem is as you mentioned the CMS behind it....I think what we both need is some direction on finding a CMS to do it. I have been looking at team module for php nuke if that helps

PHP nuke might do you well. It seems easy and customisable, alhtough I've never used it myself. Assuming you're not comfortable with coding, the less code you need to manage, the better.

Is this a fantasy league, or are you keeping stats for an actual league?

Well spoted, it could make a difference, this is english football, the proper stuff!

I don't think I will have too much trouble updating the stats every week, I was just hoping that there might be some kind of short cut that might save me a lot of work...

Also, just what is the best software for a beginner to use..
