forum work requires a lot more concentration than simply dreamweaver... first familiarize yourself with a server side language and database systems, then work from there...
free forum systems aren't necessarily "crap", in fact a lot of well-known sites use packages easily available for free... Devarticles uses vBulletin, a PHP driven forum... there are many similar packages designed in other languages. |

Welcome to the forums KamakazeKow15,
Could you elaborate on your request and be a lil' more specific? Also, keep the language clean - there's ample scope for self-expression here - just keep it clean. Good manners will get you some help around here. Robsta |

Contradictory? KamakazeKow15, most of the freebie forums out there have been around for years and have reached a much greater level of maturity than anything you could come up with using Dreamweaver. I've had good experiences with phpBB and ikonboard (perl), but there are several other quality products out there, some free and some not. |

KamakazeKow15 This is a hard subject and it take lots of times and efforts. To be able to create a forum, I would say you must have a firm knowledge in programming and db. You cannot just ask people give you codes, that means free and you don't like free "craps". Why don't you just start creating something first and then post something that you don't understand. This is the only way you can learn or get help easily from others.
Cool! |

What an excellent learning opportunity... There's all kinds of tutorials for any desired language, all they require is time and patience...
You want a forum of your own, but don't want some free professionaly package, and would rather have someone code it for you... as dhouston pointed out, is completely contradictory... you chose "How can I create a forum" as the subject of this thread, yet you have no desire to learn how to create a forum... If you have little/no programming background and you don't have the time/desire to learn... I whole heartedly recommend you utilize a free package... |

There several programming languages that can do your need such as perl, python, c++, asp.net, vb.net, php, ect... But you have to pick for yourself which one youre familiar with. But my suggestion, if you have no/little programming background, you should start with something easy first, and then work your way up. You can not make one jump to the top except youre the expert. That's all I would stress out your question. |

Hi KamakazeKow15,
I'm not very good with server-side languages, but I found php to be a nice language to work with - my php skills are limited to processing form data, however, so I'm not the guy to ask. I'm sure MadCowDzz, Mary and dhouston will be more helpful. Once you've figured out which language you'd like to start learning, you can start searching for tutorials to get you started, and then post any questions that come up in a relevant forum. Or you can opt for one of the freebe forum packages if you're more interested in getting your forum up and running quickly. p.s. you're asking the right questions - you're coming along. ![]() |

I've dealt with many server-side languages and I think PHP would be the easiest to begin with... its less picky with many aspects of coding and i find its error messages to be somewhat kind and forgiving =)
KamakazeKow15, if you have any programming background, PHP's syntax is somewhat similar to C, and the learning curve wouldn't be as steep. If you don't have any background don't worry, there's TONS of tutorials out there, and many great ones right here... I suggest you read up on some of the basics first before you dive into a large project such as a forum. Best of luck |

Hi guys. I am also interested in setting up a forum. I am trying to learn the languages but I kinda need a quick solution until I can make my own. Are there any good tutorials not just on php and the like but actually building a forum. Been trying to work through w3schools tuts, but nothing on forum building. Also in threads above there was talk of free forums? What a brilliant idea! lol Does anyone know any good ones of these, preferably with no banners? Cheers
