NEED URGENT HELP - Adobe Photoshop CS2 - Out of memory even with 1.4GIG RAM installed

I need this repaired ASAP. I must do some editing for a client and I am now in trouble if I don't get this fixed ASAP.

I just don't get this! I had 512megs of memory and occassionally had out of memory issues in photoshop.

So I spent $100+ to get 1 GIG more and now with a total 1.46GIG's of RAM installed and I STILL get the famous error

"Could not complete your request because there is not enough memory (RAM)"

In fact, I am getting MORE out of memory errors in photoshop with 2X more RAM than I started with..

I originaly had the default 50% ram given to adobe.. and then tried 75% and still get the errors 90% of the time.

I checked windowsXP Task Manager Processes and indicates that photoshop is using no more than approx 300-400megs of ram with approx 1010megs being given to photoshop, YET according to Processes, photoshop.exe is only using between 41MEGS - 400megs.. Processes claims a Commit Charge of "2244M/2688M"

HELP!?!?! Adobe recommends 384Megs of ram.. If that is the case, HOW can I be running out of memory if I have 1.4 GIGS?

Cache is set to 1.. I've tried up to 9..

The computer:

CPU: Pentium 3.0 GHz
RAM: 1.46GIGs

I would make sure your RAM is installed and functioning properly.
If you're using Windows, pop open the Task Manager and keep an eye on your usage... something else may be eating up your RAM (bit torrent? watching movie?)

it's possible that photoshop cs2 is corrupt somehow and i would sugest installing it on another machine, to see if the occurs on that one as well.

also why is photoshop using almost 400 megs of memory, that's insane. i have a pc with 512 mb of ram but the most cs2 uses is 70 megs at it's highest peaks.

i would suggest you go and tweak cs2, to use 25% of the memory you have installed on the machine.

Exclamation psp cs2 mem handling problem

Anybody has a clue why I get low mem error as stated above while trying to save open document on photoshop cs2?
By the way I'm not using ANY plugins.
On the other hand, let's say that I used to work with pretty big documents about 50-60 MB 300 dpi etc. (for sure the system is strong enough P D 3.6 2 GB RAM, 2xRAID etc.)
I believe this error is photoshop internal memory handling problem and believe me soft. reinstallation or even system reinstallation WILL NOT help.
Photoshop has problem with purging alocated memory, when you close the document, so repeating this procedure number of times should produce same error everytime regardless of the operation you are going to perform.
So far I haven't found solution for this behaviour so I think I'll switch back to cs or even 7.0. (This one was working stable for sure).

Hope this one will save you little time while trying to figure the problem out.

Have you notified Adobe's support?
If it's a known issue, they may have a fix.

Otherwise, I'm afraid there isn't much we can help...
I know I haven't experienced it, but then again, I don't usually deal with 50MB PSD files.
