Shipping calculation help

I'm working on building my first ecommerce website. Its very well laid out in mostly php with an admin panel to add new items and categories to the store. My only problem is figuring out how to program something to calculate the shipping costs. We plan on using UPS and FedEx for shipping. If there is anyone out there that could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. Any scripts or some kind of simple shipping algorithm to calculate distance rates and everything else involved...
