using frames in web design
Hi, my problem is that I am trying to split my page into 3 vertically, into 20%, 40%, 20%, and I am not quite sure how to do this. I also have a bacground image as a jpg, and if I use frames (ie use another HTML page within a page in a frame, will this effect my background as a whole? If someone could post a reply, maybe with a code that I could use or an article to read, it would be of great assistance. Cheers

oh man... i just shuddered reading the subject... =)
Frames? ugh... *personal opinion* Is there a specific reason you're using frames? a LOT can be done in CSS and XHTML, plus its accessible to those with special viewing browsers... a lot of blind or hard-of-seeing people have their webpages dictated to them and using frames may mangle up the rendering of your page... But with that aside, from what I understand you want a single background image to display across all three frames? I assume so it looks as one flowing image? From what I know, the only way is to break the image up into three chunks (photoshop?) and use them as individual backgrounds... but keep in mind this is unreliable since many users have many different screen resolutions... Again, look into table-less design... the output is generally more predictable. |

Think I have got very confused. Basically all I want is to create a background that is black, with 2 vertical strips going down the background (silver colour) at 25% and 75% across the page. The make the text be aligned so that I have 3 colums to write in each of the three section which I have just made with the silver stripes. I read about frames but think it is wrong. Any help guys?

This can be done very simply using CSS, and NO TABLES or FRAMES!
This site will tell u everything you need to know, and has heaps of example code: http://www.bluerobot.com/web/layouts/ |
