Which language?

I'm looking to create a very simple browser-based, multiplayer game, mainly to teach myself the basics so that I can create better games later on. I have written an online game before using Blitz Basic but that was server/client based and the program was downloadable which I don't like.

So, what language would be best for writing a multiplayer game that runs in a browser? I'd prefer to use Visual Basic because I really like that language. What else would I need, some kind of database? I was looking through the trial versions of the various Visual languages and there's a web development one that looks interesting. So, where would I get started?

Basically, there are two types of games. One is that require server back and second that do not require server back.If you want to create server back games, then you can use HTML ,CSS and JAVA script and if you want to create games that do not require server back then use PHP.

HTML is easier to learn and manipulate than Java.

When we say web development, it is a term used for work involved in developing a website for the internet. It covers the basics of web programming while teaching you how to build your own website and blog application. In developing a web, HTML is the basic format for the scripting language. The latest is the HTML5 which focuses on the needs of application developers with resolving issues found in the previous versions in HTML.
