What is considered a success

How should a site be assessed to know whether it is successful as far as search engine rankings are concerned?

What is considered a good ranking?

Hi,
A successful site is one that ranks high enough for its chosen search terms that it gets sufficient visitors to achieve the objective that you had in setting up the site in the first place.

I think a site is considered as a successfull if it gains number of visitors.

I think people bank too much on visitors or search results.
Consider the conversion rate... how much you're selling (if it's a products based site), or how satisfied your visitors are.

You may receive thousands of visitors who hit your homepage or second-level pages... but if they don't stick around, or worse, never return, then you're not successful.

Yes, Search engine ranking helps... but to me it's just a tool to get people at the site... the true success comes at keeping the people at your site.
