Apache causes preformance problem
I recently started using Apache 2.X on WinXP Prof for testing my PL & PHP scripts . After some trouble getting access to localhost(turned out to b ZoneAlarm,McAfee)I got it to work.
I first de-installed ZoneAlarm and McAfee, then re-installed Apache,Installed all the PHP Perl SQL stuff, then I re-installed ZA and then McAfee. But now when I start the service, Apache's CPU usage stays at 60% more or less and my harddrive keeps caching/ paging like crazy (rattling sound) as soon as I stop the service it's quiet again. No errors so every thing works but at this rate I can buy me a new hard drive each week! I'm under the impression that McAfee causes the problem, but since this is also my main PC not having McAfee just is no option. Does anybody have any suggestions 4 me? At this point I would even go for an alternative to Apache. Thx in adv. |

I'm guessing Zone Alarm is the problem here. What version of ZA are you running? I seem to recall some problems running Apache 2.* with ZA. That said, I am running the latest version of ZA with Apache 2 on my Windows 2000 Advanced Server box and all seems fine so far.
My recommendation is to update Zone Alarm and see if that solves the problem. Go for a clean install, if possible, as inherited ZA settings can sometimes cause very strange problems! |
