Apache folder permissions issue

win2k3
MySQL 5
PHP5
Apache 2.0.54 w/SSL

I am trying to enable users to download files from a directory on my webserver - lets call that directory "docs".

If I log into the domain, I am able to download the file from docs with no issue.

However, my website's traffic will be coming from the outside world that are not on the same domain. What must be done in order for users to have the ability to click on the weblink on my webpage to download their files?

Is this an Apache issue or Windows Domain issue?

it's a router problem. that's the problem, you need to add a router that allows you to open port 80. either that your isp has blocked port 80, and you may need to contact about that.

I currently have a Sonicwall router with port 8089 open for Apache traffic. My Apache webserver is configured to use that port automatically.

After posting this message, I created a html file with a link to the file in that folder. I open the page, click the link, and get the Open or save message, then I click on Save. I have tested this on 7 different machines. They all worked.

However, if I paste that same exact url in my IE browser on my laptop, I get the funky IE error when attempting save or open it. This does not happen on my laptop with Firefox. i am able to open and save with no issue. Only IE.
Stupid IE.

The reason I am stressing about this is because I have one week prior to going into production with my web-app, which 50 users are going to be jumping on every day. I know, with my luck, at least one of them will experience this same problem.

if you don't mind, could you post the code in question, and also have you tried fixing up ie to handle the request?

Can you define "funky IE error when attempting save or open it"?
