Apache question that might sound silly

Hello there,

I am trying to do some DNS configuration, and it says to enter the value of the A record,
which means that they want me to insert the ip of the web server. I am using Apache web server
in windows XP pro. Is there IP for Apache too? Exactly where do I get this IP from? Any sort of advice or
hints will be greatly appreciated.

Open a command prompt then type
ipconfig
It'll list your IP Address copy and paste that into the configuration.

thank you very much

Hello again,

Once again, thank you, and thank you so much for trying to help out this
poor newbie. Question to MadCowDzz by the way, what do you mean when you say that
IP for apache would be the same for Windows XP?

Hello there,

Thanx for the tip. So I type in ipconfig and it gives me the following:
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Connection Specific DNS Suffix ......: blank
IP address : 192.168.2.103
Subnet mask : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.2.1

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection :

Media state ....Media disconnected
---------------------------------------------------------------------
What does this mean? Do I just ignore all these and use the IP address?

Normally I'd say yes but you are on a network so you'll have to ask your network admin your external ip, also since you are on a network I'm not sure if mapping a domain to your IP is a good idea nor do I think it'll work to map it directly to your computer. If your network has a firewall not sure it'll work at all.

If by chance you aren't on a network then use the first IP.

A final thank you

Hello there,

Thank you and thank you so much for sticking with me for past couple of months.
It finally worked!! Of course, I know that if I want this to work fluently, I have to turn
on the computer 24/7 (which is kinda impossible now). But what matters for now is that
my domain name finally takes me to where I want!! Thank you, for those people who provided me
with such helpful tips.

By the way, may I ask where about are you located in Canada? I currently live in Surrey,
British Columbia (have been for past eight years), although I switch my address to Ontario every
four months for university education.

Glad everything worked out, I guess you aren't on a network?

I live mostly in Brantford, Ontairo, sometimes up to Ottawa.

Viper_SB, I'm guessing its a home network.

Young, sorry if I confused you earlier... it sounded like you thought Apache would have a different IP than Windows... I trust you know it'd [obviously] be the same... sounds like the problem is solved nonetheless...
