apache setup
Ok, so after scouring apache dev page mirrors I finally find the file I want "apache_2.0.49-win32-x86-no_ssl" and as soon as I double click the install icon it does the loading of files and what-not, but then brings me to an agreement page, so far so good, but after that it asks me for my server's information (network domain, server domain and administrators e-mail address). That's the problem, I'm too cheap to buy a domain, anyways my IP is dynamic (DHCP/it changes, often) I don't like dyn-dns for it's a hassle to read all the fine print of each package they offer. The server is the machine I happen to be posting from, I'll put on my specs just for grins. Is there a way I can bypass or get the apache setup/install software to understand that it wont have a network name? I'd appreciate any help greatly!
OS: Win98se Connection: Cable Motherboard: k7vta3 AMD somewhere between 2200 and 2800 (1.3ghz) RAM: 512 MB thx |

If you're wanting to host things for viewing outside your own network, you need either a static IP or a dynamic DNS service. No way around it as far as I know. If you're hosting inside your network, just give your system a static local IP and provide "localhost.localdomain" as the domain.
