Thanks much. I got the router forwarding port 80 and that lets other internet users see the site via http://[myIP]. But I can't access it. Someone told me that has something to do with the firewall, but as long as I can access it with http://localhost then it shouldn't be a problem.
Also, I have signed up with dyndns and have started to set that up. Thanks again for your help. |

you wont be able to access it via http://yourip from inside your lan
outside the lan you will be able to though ![]() No worries about the help.. I just ask that when it gets setup finally you let us all see ![]() |

Nothing to see really, it's just a testing server right now with a bunch of code I put in to test out mySQL.
Hey, I found an odd, but working, workaround for not being able to see http://[myIP] nor my dyndns address: translate the page with Google's language tools. True, it's weird, but it at least guarantees me that the dyndns thing is working. I wonder now though, would there be a way I can emulate what Google is doing (minus the translation, obviously) on my own domain? |

well technically, you arent viewing the page
google is.. so yeah! thats a good idea though, and a good way to test to see if the dns is working.. *writes that one down* Thanks! |

No problem, but like I said, is there a way I could emulate this on my own domain? If Google can do it, shouldn't I be able to with my own dot com?

Not unless your router will let you do it.. and the only way I know of to "emulate" a domain is by using http://localhost or http://yourinternalip

What I mean is, would I be able to do what Google is doing (minus translation) on a different website? For example, could I set up some php scripts on www.mydomain.com (a shared hosting website, not connected to my testing server) that would do the same thing Google is doing, minus the translation? Maybe there's another thread more suited for this question.

Ok heres my situation, and I dont have much time to get this done.
I will be having my ISP shut off ina couple of days, so I have been prepping myself to be able to still do all my DEV/Test stuff, w/o being able to FTP into my public server. I started out loading the newest versions of Apache, MySQL, PHP, and IndigoPerl individually. Imanaged to get apache set up in a way so that I could access the server machine accross my network at my house. I added the following lines to my http.conf: Listen 127.0.0.1:8080 Listen 192.168.1.100:8080(server machines netowrk IP) Now keep in mind, i just want this to work as an intranet type setup, wherein I can access it from my other machines, but not on the Web. The reason I am doing it this way, is because my present workstation I use to do my work is my laptop, and the other machine has more memory and such to spare (i often crash my laptop, because i run too much demanding gfx software at once) Anyhow, I was doing research and descided to use phpdev423 to get all the modules play nice together.... Only now, I modified the httpd.conf witht he mods i made before, and it still refuses to allow access from my other machine. Localhost and 127.0.0.1:8080 still works But when i try URL in my laptops browser, i get notta. Using ICF for both machines, but I fixed that when i had the first apache runing, and it worked fine. My router/hub is not causing the prob either, so it must be int he configuration somewhere, could anyone lend me a hand, say before Monday night? |

Apache Server on PC
After doing some reading on apache.org - I installed XPh SP1 then installed Apache 2.0. I did
config the httpd.config., and I do see the "If you see this page......You're cool" (paraphrasing). But the Apache Monitor display window crashes rec' this 'Error! Apache Server is running at startup.' Can anyone tell me what this means? |

It says Server ERROR! I want my site to be viewed from anywhere of the world by typing my ip or my dns. i have checked this from different computers. but the same ERROR!! If this is not working how can i make my xp system an apache webserver. Any one who knows this please reply me. |
