Message board using MS 2000 IIS, MS SQL... maybe Coldfusion?
I'm looking for a message board program that runs on MS 2000 server, uses MS SQL and Coldfusion? I don't quite understand the Coldfusion part, but let me explain.
I've talked my manager into setting up a message board for my unit at work. It will help us communicate better with each other and to document what we've done. To convince my boss, I set up a PHPBB2 on my personal internet site. My site uses Red Hat Linux and has php and mysql installed. I talked with people I work with to start using it. A couple caught onto the idea and we posted some to demonstrate how it works. However, like I figured, my place of business uses Microsoft 2000 IIS and SQL. The guy in charge of web programming said that he uses Coldfusion. He said they don't have php installed. He said something about looking for a message board that uses Coldfusion. He seemed a little apprehensive about PHPBB2 when I said it was open source, but that could just be me. My problem then becomes my lack of knowledge. I don't use Macromedia. I like the control of the sites that I'm writing which text based programming gives me. I am a big fan of PHP and MySQL and have spent the last year learning about them. I'm still quite a novice/hobbiest though. MS Server 2000, MS SQL and Macromedia are not software that I use at all. LOL, I can't afford that! To explain more, I have to tell you about the environment that the message board will be used. I work at a VA Medical Center unit that was started 3 years ago to process claims to insurance companies, something mandated by Congress when they cut VA funding. The information that we need to share using the message board is private and sensitive and also now regulated via the HIPAA (healthcare privacy) law. Our unit works with 8 other VA medical centers (a grouping called a VISN) to process claims throughout the southeast. For security purposes, I hope they will put the message board on our intranet... something that is not accessable through the web. Privacy and confidentiality are majorly important. I have no idea how far this idea I had will go. I figure if our unit could use it to communicate better with each other and document what we do, then it would help us out a lot. However we also must communicate with people in the 8 other VA hospitals who are geographically seperated from us. That communication could benefit greatly from a message board. If it takes off successfully other VISN's could adopt the message board for their VISN. Although I would be very happy if just my unit could use it, I do see how the VISN could use it and my manager probably sees how she can score major points if she presents a successful communication product that is adopted maybe *gasp* nationwide. That's the possible scope of the application. Each VISN could have their own intranet message board. Heck, in my mind message boards have so much potential, other units of the VA could also adopt the concept. But like I said, I'm just wanting something for my unit, but know that it's possible that it could be a huge thing. Since I have no idea about message boards that do not use Linux, PHP, and MySQL, I figure this is the best place to go to ask for some advice. I need a message board that does the following: 1) Runs on MS 2000 IIS, MS SQL... and I guess if it is a Macromedia Cold Fusion based than the VISN web programmer will really like it. 2) Is secure and focuses on security 3) And since I'm actually having to train people on how to use a message board... the board needs to be intuitive and easy to administer and use. 4) Not sure if I use this word correctly... It needs to be 'scalable' and easy to implement. Depending on how my mangers and the higher ups view this and promote it, it could be something that is used a lot throughout VA's in the nation. I am also talking about the government. Money is not much of an option. Also regardless of how popular open source packages are, I think for widespread adoption there may be some apprehension about using open source packages. Please post about any that fit the criteria though. Thanks, any help would be much appreciated! PS- I'm not asking to score any personal kiss up points myself. I will graduate from college, finally, with an accounting degree in December and will most likely move to the private sector in Q1 of 2004, especially since I am on a 'term' appointment... not a 'permanent' employee. Sure I'll put it on my resume, but if this idea goes big, I doubt it will benefit me personally in anyway. I just find our current method of communication something that can be improved upon and want to present my higher ups with the knowledge and tools to do so. I mentioned it a year ago, but they just don't know much about this kind of stuff. The management just don't know enough about it to proceed forward and they seem unwilling to ask for help. So I'm doing the work the've been unable to do. |
