PHP + Apache under Win XP Pro

Ok,

I have done my research and can not find a solution to my problem. I have installed Apache 1.3.29 and PHP 4.3.4 and mySQL 3.23.49 on my personal PC for offline web editing. Everything works perfect.... except one minor problem! I can load the "index.php" file for my localhost directory, but all .php <href> links do not load the page. Instead, it goes into the "File Download" stage in IE and gives me the option to Open or Save... Both these options just open the .php into Notepad. I can type in the .php file into the address bar and it loads fine, but I can not hit any links within any pages.

So, like I said... PHP files do load, but I can not hit other links within that page, otherwise it tries to "File Download" and opens the .php in Windows Notepad.

Does anyone have any suggestions or actually know what I have been overlooking this whole time??? Any information would greatly be appreciative!!!!

Thanks!

Seems strange!

Try restarting apache.

And possibly post few lines from httpd.conf where it mentions
Code:
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php

or similar

digitalamit,

Thanks for the response... I have continued on with troubleshooting this problem and have discover that other browsers (NS/Mozilla and Opera) work fine loading the links. This problem only occurs with the IE browser. So this is not an Apache problem. I am sorry to trouble you and your time, but do you know where in IE settings or options that can solve this problem???

Thanks in advance!

Which version of IE are you using ?
In IE Menu goto Tools -> Internet Options and click on settings and click on the option 'Every visit to page' Press OK. Close all IE windows. Restart computer and then try again.

You must add the handler so apache is aware of what to do with the contec type.

Talking "Download File" Bug

Hi Walter E. Shaffer,
I was also exp the same issues and cudnt understand why this was happening ....In doing so i reinstalled each and everything still same issue....I had Omni Server Apache Server PHP5.0 .I was even thinking it was a conflict b/w thesaervers.
But The easy Solution is go to IE --->Tools--Internet Options-->Delete cookies and Temp files-->Advaced Tab -->Click on Restore Defaults.
In My case 3rd party browser ext was disabled
Have Fun
