Question Problem with localhost and IIS

Hi!

I have problem with my webserver..
It works fine from outside and if I use
the DNS name from home, but I cannot
get HTTP://localhost to work..

Is there anyone that have an idea what the
problem could be?

I got the problem right...Anyway, you can't access the web server from within your netwrok boundary? Sounds like a DNS issue and not an IIS one. Also, localhost won't have and entry in the DNS server except if the server is running DNS and a WWW server is located on the same server, then there will be an entry in the SOA record of the root dns file, but otherwise, hosts will have to attach up to the web server via a DNS entry for a registered server, or by IP for an unregistered one. If I'm wrong or off base, then please set me straight.

Try accessing localhost in a different browser.
Try pinging localhost from a DOS prompt.
Try http://127.0.0.1 in internet explorer and another browser.

I've seen a setting somewhere that inhibited localhost in IE...
I can't explain why, and I don't remember what it was...
but this sounds like a symptom of it.

If my above tests fail, check that you have an entry in your HOSTS file for localhost.

Question Thanks a lot, but I have still problems..

Thank you for your answers.

I tried to ping localhost in dos cmd
and that was sucessfull, but in neither IE or Mozilla it works to
access my page in the inetpub (like I could before) via
localhost...

My problem started with, that I couldn't publish my changes to
my webpage, situated in the inetpub directory..
It complains that I cannot publish to the directory itself and
it needs the actual adress, so I figured I should use http://localhost/mypage
but it doesn't work.. any ideas somebody??

cant access localhost

i have the same problem, pls have you been able to solve yours and how did you do it. i have wamp installed and when it is running i can access its own localhost so i think the problem is from iis or inetpub. how do you access your hosts file on win xp and enable personal web sharing.
